Review______________
When I was coming up in the world, one of the cartoons I would catch would be "Scooby Doo". I always thought it was a rather lame cartoon, and thus was never a big fan of the group of teenagers who would get chased around by monsters (who always turned out at the end to be some strange man in a costume). I always had the feeling that Velma was a lesbian, Shaggy and Scooby had been smoking too much Reefer, and that Daphne was Fred’s fuck bitch. Needless to say, I wasn’t too keen on seeing the live action movies when they came out. The only thing that made me even the little bit interested in seeing them was the rumor that Velma kissed Daphne. (Something that was supposed to happen in the first movie and either got cut or never happened... bastages) Course when it came to watching the first or second movie, I defiantly passed on it… or at least until someone gave my son (who was 3 at the time) the DVDs. He, for some unknown and unforeseen reason, adored both movies so much he insisted that we watch them over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Let me state this… If you’re not a small child, be prepared for one of the worst movies you will have to deal with. In a later review, I will tackle the first movie. Right now, I can’t imagine having to watch that again so soon to weaning my son off of it.

The premise of this sequel is that Mystery Inc. is opening an exhibit at some Coolsville museum. At this exhibit the Pterodactyl ghost, a costume they donated, comes to life and while they are trying to get this monster under wraps, Shaggy and Scooby bungle the “plan” thus letting the monster, and the mysterious masked figure, to get away with more costumes. The crew each try to change who they are, in order to make others interested in them, and at the same time try to figure out how and why these things are happening.

I think, like the last movie, that the characters are blown out of proportion, making Daphne more ditzy but kung-fu-ish; Fred is less intelligent and, as a leader is concerned, isn’t the best; Velma is straight, less nerdy and totally fuckable (especially in this movie… one scene has her all done up in a plastic outfit) and Shaggy possesses more intelligence than he should have. One would think that this might make this movie easier to stomach, but it only adds to the wretchedness of it.

There are more groan and moan parts in this movie, including Shaggy getting the body of a woman, Scooby pretending to have Rabies, Velma’s attempt to impress a guy with her jet setting mystery woman concept, and Fred jousting on a motorcycle.

The plot, even for a children’s movie (which is what I deeply hope they are trying to market this as) is mediocre at best, not having as much real substance outside the fast action and music montages. Of course my son thinks it’s amazing, so my analysis may be off, but it’s just brutal for an adult to have to watch.

There are the obvious blunders you have where things break, get pierced or knocked down, only to be perfect in the next shot. It’s over sensationalized and yet it fails to keep my or my son’s attention.

The ending has a strange twist, which of course is not that plausible even for a children’s movie. Of course my son cheers and goes nuts at the end… Then of course there is the pointless dance scenes that have nothing to do with anything but just exist, especially at the end where Ruben from "American Idol" sings a song…

The bad thing about this movie is it saps the very life of your soul so much, that writing this review has just about drained me of all of my energy. Sappy, crappy shit does that. Please… just shoot me now, or break the DVD or something. I can’t take watching this movie again (Which of course, I’m going to be asked to play again and again).

The bottom line: if you’re an adult without the benefit of children in your lives, DON’T SEE THIS MOVIE. If you are under the age of 10… you will love it.

H.O.P.E.L.E.S.S. Rating:
- Unless it’s a slumber party of small children, I wouldn’t even admit to seeing this movie much less watching it with friends, simply because this will confirm your geek status.
