T-MAC SHATTERS OLD RECORD
June 18, 2003, RBA7 opening day.  Boulder Buffaloes' star Tracy McGrady, the #4 overall pick in the RBA draft oblitered the RBA scoring record and set the bar so high that it probably won't be reached for years to come.  McGrady shot 25/28 from the field, a rediculous 89%.  He made four of six three point attempts, and 14/15 Free Throws in a 139-109 blowout of the Baltimore.  McGrady's 32.1ppg make him the highest scoring NBA player to ever participate in the RBA and it took him just one game in the league as a starter to make his mark in the RBA record books.  Congrats T-Mac!!!!!
Celtics Get Defensive,
Deal Davis for Artest
On Monday, June 16th the Boston Celtics decided that a 4-1 preseason, which included wins over division opponents Deleware and Metro along with a win over the rival Oakland Warriors wasn't good enough.  That one preseason loss was at hands of the second-rate cross-town franchise, the Boston Eliminators and that was exactly who the Celtics dealt arguably their second best player, Ricky Davis to.

The move seems like a curious one to some fans of the Celtics.  Davis was far and away the second leading scorer on the Celtics during the preseason behind franchise center Shaquille O'Neal.  The Celtics, historically a team known for putting points on the board, traded a guy that averaged 21.6ppg 4.4rpg and 7.6apg for Ron Artest, a guy who averaged just 16.4ppg 3.8rpg and 2.8apg.  This deal has left fans of the team wondering why anyone would do a trade like that.

Rumors had been flying around in RBA GM circles that the Celtics couldn't defend the top teams in the league.  On draft day the Celtics twice decided to draft offense over defense, in Round 2 when they took Davis over Artest and again in Round 4 when they drafted Jerome Williams over defensive specialist David Robinson.  After five games of allowing opponents to score 106ppg Jenike felt that a change might help the team.

When you examine the Celtics' team stats it is not hard to see how Davis didn't really fit into the lineup.  Why did Davis, a 41% shooter take 100 shots in the preseason when Shaquille O'Neal, a 56% shooter only took 77?  In acquiring Artest the Celtics recieve a player who although not a greater shooter or scorer at least keeps his shot count down (68 preseason attempts, 46% shooting), plays tough defense, and doesn't turn the ball over much.  He should compliment this team nicely with his low minute production and high versatility because ultimatly this trade will free former Duke star Shane Battier to get some more minutes off of the Celtics' bench instead of watching Ricky play for 40 minutes a night.

Celtics Finish Preseason 4-1
The Celtics wrapped up preason action on Sunday, June 15th with a 4-1 record.  The Celtics lost their opener on the Eliminators home floor then went on to win four straight.  The Eliminators finished the preseason with a 3-2 record, losing their two games by a combined sixty points.  Boston averaged a nice 112.2ppg but allowed the opposition to score a scary 105.6ppg.  Wins were over the Deleware Burners who finished the preseason 2-3, the Entelechy Garrison who went 1-4, the Oakland Warriors who were 2-3, and the Metro Gridlock who also finished the preseason 4-1.  Shaquille O'Neal, and definetly not Chris Webber, was the consensus MVP of the preseason.
