There are variations on the skanking depending on the era. The one I'm about to teach you is from the 2-tone second wave period. There is limited information on skanking on the net but here is my attempt at it.
   
  
STEP 1:

  Stand on one foot, start with your right foot, your arms should be in a jogging position and your wrists should be clenched. Elbows are bent.

 
STEP 2:

   Then drop your left foot down and raise your right. Your feet pump in this manner switching from one to the other. At the same time your arms should be pumping as though you are jogging. Move your arms as you move your legs oppositely. The faster you pump your feet moves it's the faster your arms go too.

STEP 3:

     Now comes the tricky part of the lesson. You'll need a little practice but I'm sure you'll do fine. This step is called the 'slide'.
Again start by standing on one leg, and then slide the foot you are standing on a few inches back without putting the other foot down. You kind of have to do a little hop to slide it back right? After the slide lift the foot and bring the other foot down and try it with the other foot. Practice this right foot slide and left foot slide until you get the idea.

STEP 1 - STEP 3

    Here it goes from start to end. Start by standing on your right foot. Slide it. Put your left foot down. Slide it… remember to jog around your arms as you move your foot.  Pick up some paces and do it with some speed and you're SKANKING!
