Sega Master System Page

My SMS Page

This is the history of my Sega Master System gaming: all the games I have or have had. The games are (as well as I remember) in the order I got them.

Snail Game

The "hidden" game in every Master System. I have finished it many times along years (just to see if I still can).

Hang On

One of the great classics and one of the games build-in in my Master System Plus. In it's simplicity Hang On is quite fun even after years of playing.

Safari Hunt

The Light Phaser game build-in MS Plus. I never was really good at this, but shooting is fun.

The Ninja

The one game I bought with the console. I was able to beat the 12 levels, but since I never found the five scrolls, I eventually got bored and sold the game. Got to admit, now I miss it.

Fantasy Zone

A cult classic. Long live Opa-Opa!
What separates this from dozens of other shoot'em-ups is the possibility to fly freely left or right until you kill all immobile enemy "bases". After that come the HUGE end bosses. The thing that most bothers me in having sold it some ten years ago is that this is a game that will have great value to collectors after couple more decades.

Golden Axe

The SMS version isn't the best one, but playability is still good. Sold it, but don't miss it a bit, because this is the game that got me more pissed than any other and in my case that's a lot.

Slat Shot

Because I've played this so much, I've never been really good in NHL. Interesting story about this game is that I learned to play this with my feet (that's right folks, toes on pad!). Playing with my toes, I could beat weak opponents such as small child, my mother or Sweden (it is the worst of the eight A Pool team in this game).

Tennis Ace

I remember the summer I got this. The game has a Tournament mode where you have to win 36 matches where you need to win two sets. One such match takes some half an hour. Now, that would only make 18 hours of effective playing (if you win every game), but to be able to win Grand Slam I had to train my player, which you do by winning extra games 6-0, 6-0 (without losing many points either!)
So, here's a game with plenty to play, one sure can say that.

Phantasy Star

The greatest game ever made to SMS. Alas! woe is me; I sold it. Because after finally finishing it I though I would never again have will or strengh to play it through (as happens with all RPG's I am able to finish). Now my regret is beyond words.

Rampage

Still have it. 'Nuff said.

After Burner

Boring.

Ghouls'n'Ghosts

Annoying basic platform. Sold it and I'm not a bit sorry for that.

Sonic the Hedgehog

Sold it. When you're done with it, you're done with it.

Super Kick Off

Hard to learn, easy to master. Injuring opponents is always fun.

Populous

Sega control pad is actually great controller for this! I've tried the PC version (P2 too) and I'd claim the Sega version most playable of all. Pad works better in flattening land than keyboard or mouse. This also has "Promised Lands" in it (6th landscape and over 5000 levels), so it's better than the basic PC version. All this with the fact that Populous is one of best games ever invented make it the second greatest SMS game I know (still consider PS the best).

Lemmings

It's not that hard to play with pad.

Asterix

A good platform. No wonder they made two more.

Trap Shooting / Marksman Shooting / Safari hunt

The three-game cartridge that comes with Light Phaser. No, I haven't bought a new LP. I just bought this because, even I already had Safari Hunt, it's still two games on price of one.

Wonder Boy III: Dragon's Trap

I suppose I've never really appreciated platforms. Many people would call this the best of its genre, but it never really caught my interest. Still, putting some RPG element to platform is a fine idea.

Great Golf

In case someone finds the picture odd, let me inform you there are two different games on name "Great Golf". This is the export game, if you have the other, it's japanese.

Double Dragon

Only fun as two player game. Same as any other version.

Dragon Crystal

Ever heard of Rogue (the game, not the X-man)? Would Nethack sound more familiar? Well, Dragon Crystal has the same principle: RPG-mazegame with random levels. Nice light RPG.

My Hero

Bought it used for less than one euro. Worth the price... barely.
