Eye Witness Testomony

Introduction

There are well over 5000 credible Bigfoot sightings reports on file to date. These credible sightings are only a small percentage of the reports that are submitted or go unreported. Due to ridicule, embarassment, damaged reputations and profession, it is beilived that over 75% of the sightings go unreported. It has been doccumented that some people have lost thier jobs for claiming an encounter with Bigfoot. When a witness does decide to report, the sighting is ussally investigated carfully and eye witnesses are interviewed and with permission, taped. It is up to the investigater to determine the credibilty of the witness by studing the area of the ecounter, examining the consistancy of their story, investigating there reputation in their comunity, and judging thier scincerity. Researchers use many methods of detecting fabrications wich they have learnt from experience. Inconsistancies, exsessive detail under poor conditions, lack of emotional response, unusual behavior etc. But the most convincing aspect of a witnesses testimony is that intangible convayance of truth, scencerity and conviction felt when experiencing their story when told first hand. Many researchers have stated this after interviewing an eye witness.

A good example of this, is the case of Terry Reems, who in 1975, along with dozens of other witness saw a Bigfoot stranded on the medien of Interstate 84. As the creature crossed the highway it ran along side of thier car where he was able to get a good look at it. When Mr. Reams reported this incident to the county sheirfs office he was told that they had gotten at least 12 other calls about the same incident and 4 of them were police officers.
Here is a small clip of Terry Reams on Coast to Coast from June 9 2000 (mp3)

An interesting aspect concerning the number of reported cases is the aparent nocturnality of these creatures. Dr .W. H. Fahrenbach, Ph.D., Laboratory of Microscopy, Oregon Regional Primate Research Center, had published a report which in part examined this issue. Dr. Fahrenbach calculated the likelyhood of a sighting occuring during daylight verse night time. He arived at a ratio of slightly more than 1000:1,(1000 daylight sightings for every one night sightings) given that bigfoot activity was evenly distributed between day and night. This would perdict that out of 5000 sightings, only 5 occured at night. But this is not the case. John Green (see below) has accumilated over 1500? eyewitness reports during 35 years of investigating the bigfoot phenomenon. He cited a ratio of 1.38:1. 735 day time sightings (58%) and 540 night time sightings(42%). This indicates that Bigfoot is sighted 1,500 times more often at night then it should be if it were not a nocturnal animal. Being a mostly nocturnal animal, Bigfoot has a tremendous advantage at staying undocumented.
