Guided Tour Of Sterling On W&OD

Sterling has seen better days, such as the summer that President Buchanon spent here. Before the Civil War it was called, "Guilford" or "Guilford Station."

1. Guilford Fellowship (Baptist) Church, 1882Gothic Revival style.
2. Schoolhouse, 1879, closed in 1949, now an antiques store.
3. Tavenner's Wheelright shop, c. 1870, later Sterling Store, now a small-engine repair store.
4. Methodist Church, 1880, Gothic Revival style, now abandoned.
5. Ellmore's Store, c. 1900frame building with front and back porches, undergoing rennovation in 2002: acquiring yellow vinyl siding.
6. Sterling Emporium, c. 1900 formerly a post office.
