Shania escapes for some TLC

Newly-single music star Shania Twain has been nursing her broken heart with a sunshine break in the Caribbean.

The Canadian songstress spent a week recuperating from her recent marriage split on the private island of Mustique, before hopping over to a luxury beach resort in Barbados.

Twain, 42, last month announced her break-up with music producer Robert "Mutt" Lange, 59, with whom she had a 14 year marriage and a six-year-old son.

It's rumoured that he'd cheated with Twain's close friend Marie-Anne Thiébaud, although both have denied the affair.

During the paradise break, Twain took time out to speak of her heartache and thank her loyal fans for their support via an emotional message posted on her website.

Hotel guests at the swish Sandy Lane resort, in Barbados, said Twain looked sombre and a little fragile during her stay.

"She was quiet most of the time and obviously had a lot on her mind," said one onlooker.

"She seemed wiped out from the strain of her marriage split and looked to be trying her best to recharge her batteries and mull things over."

In the touching website message to her fans, Twain said: "As I am sure you have seen or heard; I am going through a rough time personally in my life.

"I wanted you all to know that I could not be getting through this without you. Your letters, emails and words of encouragement give me strength.

"Your overwhelming support reminds me to smile, no matter how deep the pain and to always be grateful for all the beautiful blessings in my life. "I have so much to say but I know the best way for me to speak is through my music. This is my therapy, my passion, and my love.

"I look forward to sharing it with all of you as I begin this new journey.

"I need some time to heal this broken heart but make no mistake; I will be back and hopefully stronger than ever.

"Thank you my friends, from the bottom of my heart."

It's thought Twain had stayed at her own luxurious villa during her week on the idyllic island of Mustique.

But following a three day stop over in Barbados, it was back to reality on Sunday when she flew out of the Caribbean on a private plane.
