"DOWN HOME COUNTRY ..IS MAKING RED JOHNSON THE COUNTRY ARTIST OF THE MONTH FOR AUGUST
Let me introduce my DOWN HOME COUNTRY artist of the month..His name is Red Johnson. He was born in Flint , Michigan, but has lived in Minnesota most of his life. He bought his first guitar at around the age of twelve after raising a steer his father got him for his tenth birthday. Two year later he sold the steer and bought a Silvertone guitar from the Sears & Roebucks catalog. In 1951 he married his high school sweetheart Flo. They are the parents of two children Valerie and Mitchell. It was in 1955 Red started his first band. His first real money he say was 5 bucks a night! (plus beer). Red recorded in Nashville in the 60's & 70's. He wrote "There's A Grand Ole Opry Show Somewhere" and was picked up by Capital Records. He also,co- wrote "Taxi-Cab Driver" for Dave Dudley. He has written many great songs. I'm proud to play his music on DOWN HOME COUNTRY WERU FM 89.9 Bluehill & 102.9 Bangor. He has become a good friend of mine and hope to continue to keep in touch with him and bring his music to all the fine folks of the Bangor, Me. area. I can't end without stating that Red is a Korean Veteran. To learn more about Red Johnson & his music career go to his web site www.mkoc.com/RedJohnson.
