Pert and Leni on Historic Limasawa Island

Picture was taken on the highest spot of Limasawa Island where the first mass in the Philippines was held. The island, about an hour pump-boat ride from the southernmost tip of Leyte Island is small; one could traverse it in one day. Population is less than 4,000. Ironically while the first Catholic mass was held there, the place now hosts about five other religions not to mention the other smaller sects. The beaches around the island are so clear and breathtakingly beautiful. Background is Surigao Strait where the last naval "face to face" battle was fought. Beneath the blue water lie the Japanese battleships, which were sunk by the American Navy in the most decisive victory for the US in the battle of Leyte Gulf.
