GEN: He was killed in the Battle of Bennington. In order to stop the
GEN: progress of General Burgoyne in his march from Canada, John, brother
GEN: of Thomas, led the company that engaged in battle at Bennington. At
GEN: the first fire received from the enemy, Thomas was shot through the
GEN: heart, and as he fell had time only to say, 'I am a dead man; the Lord
GEN: have mercy on my soul.'
