Beatification of Jacinta and Francisco

Jacinta and Francisco

On May 13, 1989, the 72nd anniversary of Our Lady's first appearance at Fátima, the Vatican announced that His Holiness, Pope John Paul II, officially recognized the heroic virtues of Francisco and Jacinta Marto. He therefore paved the way for the Church to officially beatify these two children who saw Our Lady at Fátima.

Special Announcement

The Beatification of Jacinta and Francisco, the child Seers of Fátima, was held on May 13, 2000 when Pope John Paul II visited the Shrine for the Special Celebration here in Fátima. The Vatican also disclosed the third secret.

With their cousin, Lucia dos Santos, Francisco and Jacinta were chosen by the Mother of God to receive Her Sacred Message and convey it to the world. In the process all three children heroically suffered calumny, persecution, kidnapping and even threats of death.

The beatification of Francisco and Jacinta came as the result of the prayers and petitions of millions of souls over the past 70 years, many of who have been the direct recipients of the favors granted by these children.
