Congradulations to the Season 5 Cup Champs, the Pittsburgh Penguins, who swept the Washington Capitals in the Eastern Conference finals. Goodluck next year, we're gonna give ya hell! |
Free Agency Aquisitions: Joe Thornton Jomar Cruz Evgeny Tsybouk Ben Simon Kurt Sauer |
DRAFT CENTRAL The Capitals as of Saturday, July 26th will have 5 1st round draft picks in this upcoming draft. The picks are listed at 5th, 13th, 22nd, 23rd, and 24th. Trading to get these draft picks have meant the loss of some key veterans from the season 4 Cup team. This also goes to show that the Capitals GM Tom Whalen is not afraid to shoot for youth. Goodluck with the upcoming draft. |
GM's Corner Capitals GM Tom Whalen, has traded key players away to make some room for youth. Some of the deals he has made have been rather risky for the teams future. Putting all faith in goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin as the #1 goaltender, Nabakov was traded away for youth and draft picks. Also, veterans such as Pierre Turgeon, Glen Murray, and Wade Redden have been traded away. With a new core of youthful players, GM Tom Whalen hopes it will bring a new spark back into Washington, hopefully leading to another Stanley Cup. With many players becoming Free Agents after this season, this could be the teams last run at a cup for a while. Goodluck |
