Santur is kind of dulcimer with a flat trapeze body. It has from 16 to 24 strings in pairs, or triplets, tuned chromatically. The strings are struck with a light wooden sticks whose ends are slightly curved upwards (pictured in middle of santur). The santur was cultivated chiefly in cities to accompany singing.
