Not in order-that would be just too hard!
VILLIAN-of course! This is my 'desert isle' book. If I was trapped on a desert isle and could only have one-this would be it.
PRACTICE-oh, those Chandler men-Gordon's on here too.
BLISS-Johnny is a favorite of mine
CROWN-this is the one that re-introduced me to Patricia's books after a long break. "an ignorant warthog with tall-feet"-LOVE IT
QUESTIONS-see, here's Gordon's book.

Crown----very creased from re-reading it so often
Villan---cry everytime at the end
Wagered Widow===Treve is one of my most favorites and I really like Rebecca also, I just wish poor Kade would get redeemed and come back
Love Alters Not
Mandarin
Dovie

(in no particular order)
25 Apr 2002
Dedicated Villian

Poor Splendid Wings: Wow, I was stunned by this book! Sure wish Patricia would write a sequel!
26 Apr 2002
Sanguinet's Crown. None of the others even come close. All the rest could switch places, but this one is non-negotiable.
26 Apr 2002
Well, here are my top five. The first two on the list are a dead heat---SC because of the action and DV because of Roly.
26 Apr 2002
Sanguinet's Crown. Mitch was so arrogant, Charity downright frigid, but they both had "bottom" and grew with the
challenge they endured.
26 Apr 2002
Mandarin: JM are my fave series, and August is my fave character. A whole book of August! August angst, August duel and August+Gwen, my favorite PV couple.
26 Apr 2002
Can't put these in order but...
27 Apr 2002
Mandarin of Mayfair
27 Apr 2002
Mistress of Willowvale-I just loved it. A writer with the talent to start off with a death scene and still keep you reading is priceless. And the scene where Kit learns he's to be spared and puts his head in Leone's lap and cries gets me everytime.
28 Apr 2002
Practice to Deceive. FELT this book - loved Pen.
28 Apr 2002
Sanguinet's Crown (the best tortured hero)

Sanguinet's Crown(best tortured hero)
Tyrant mmmm...Merry, he's so *honorable*
GATL I know, I know, but I like it
LAN mmmm...Tony as well as the wonderful trial scene and possibly my favorite heroine
PTD mmmm...Quentin (I'm starting to detect a pattern here)
DV mmmm... Roly (Did you see that one coming?
Honorable Mentions: Shadow's Bliss and Love's Duet (I couldn't help myself)
Anne
Give All to Love
Love Alters Not
Sanguinet's Crown
Mandarin
These are in no particular order.
Kathy (also Bernice/Octavia)
Love Alters Not; Tony in bathtub, we had fun with that alst week, the scene where Mitten is wallowing in garbage, the best PV duel ever (or one of the best, and yet the darkness of that time, still gives a chill.
Riddle of Alabaster Royal (I know Consuela was er strange, but I love Jack!)
Dedicated Villian, so satisfying! Roly is mesmerizing in this!
Practice to Deceive, great adventure, great humor, great hero, great heroine, and our first glimpse of Roly
Marietta
The Tyrant. I just love Merry.
Feather Castles. It was my first Veryan, so it has a special place in my heart.
Give All to Love. It was so wonderful to get the Nine Knights together again. And, yes, the lining up to fight the duel was *hysterical*!
Since August is tied with Mitch for my favorite hero, you'd think I'd say Mandarin, but I was actually a bit disappointed in that one. I think I had built it up too much in my head beforehand and had developed my own idea of how it should go, which I should never do. So I'm gonna say Time's Fool, because that introduced me to August and Gwen!
Clearly, I'm very partial to the Sanguinet Series!
Cassandra
Sanguinet's Crown
Dedicated Villain
The Tyrant
Lanterns
A Shadow's Bliss
I can hear all the screams now about the last two---but the heroes in both stories made promises: Diccon to King and country, Jonathan to the rector, and both men kept their promises even when it caused them pain.
Priscilla/Roly
Mistress of Willowvale. This was the first PV I read, I I fell in love with both Kit and Troy. I love the bit about Troy in the
armour and being "rung" in the cricket match. Also the bit about the pancake. And the horror...imagine, your beloved twin
dying in your arms and later you find you are belived to have aided in his demise.
The Wagered Widow. Again, I fell in love with Treve. And despite his very brief appearence, Hector Kadenworthy. I was
shocked and disappointed with his fate in The Mandarin of Mayfair, but I hold out hope for his redemption.
Poor Spendid Wings. This book tears into my soul. The main characters don't really do that much for me, but the whole
panorama in awe inspiring.
Lynette
Villain. What I said about August boes for Roly. And maybe that's sick, but the torture and aftermath are very intense.
LAN. Tony. Tony Farra in a bath. And all that suffering and nobility on trial. Plus very good taste in heroines. I actually like Dimity.
Practice to Decieve. Penelope is a great heroine. And Wuentin.....yum! A very unusual (un tortured, that is mentally) hero. very romantic
That is tough. A while back I would have said "Crown," but thinking it over I decided thst the honor goes to...drumroll... "Tyrant" Merry and Phoebe are so refreshingly normal. But I am torn between that one and Time's Fool. I like Naomi, and Gideon and it sets up the whole story. So, 6 I guess.
I also forgot Poor Splendid Wings. Wins that number one spot, hands down. Mainly for Joe.
Marsha
Mistress of Willowvale-long hunted for and anticipated title did not disappoint ( for once)!
Love Alters Not-Duh.
Married Past Redemption-Love besotted husbands trying to woo their wives stories.
Wagered Widow-very important lynch pin novel, links the 2 series Jeweled crown and Golden. Great Hero, flawed but funny heroine. Great scenes.
Shadow's Bliss. First Veryan that really caught me. Love the romance that bucks the usual strong invulnerable hero stereotype. Also think that Jennifer Britewell is one of the most underrated Veryan heroines
Becky (Rebekah)
Dedicated Villain
Wagered Widow
Sanguinet's Crown
Love Alters Not
but I'd still be crabby about having to give up the rest of the JM series. Except for Bliss, of course.
N
Love Alters Not-for the same reasons as everyone else. The trial scene is extraordinary!
As Me Know Questions - Gordon is my guy!
Shadow's Bliss - sorry, Nonnie, I just liked it alot! I think PV did the hero so well without making him seem like a wimp. And, as one of us mentioned, he was a man who kept his word.
The Riddle of the Shipwrecked Spinster - another, don't know why, just loved it. I think it's because all the characters except for the heroine are old friends. And I like to see the 'quiet' brother get the girl.
As for Dedicated Villain and Mandarin of Mayfair, I think both of those books must be read as part of a series to get the full effect. They are both incredibly brilliant stories but do better in the series than standing alone.
Jean
Sanguinet's Crown. For all your reasons already covered.
Love Alters Not. Ditto.
Had We Never Loved. Did anyone else mention this one? Tio does something for me. Has anyone considered that Tio's breaking free of societal strictures may have influenced August to look deeper later in his relationship with Gwen?
Nanette. What!? Why, you ask? Hey, Harry Redmond is in this one. Mmmm... he does the alpha male thing exceedingly well. And if that's not enough you meet Mitchell before the "change."
So, this is mine for now (I admit, it shifts).
Tobias
Some Brief Folly (second best tortured hero)
The Tyrant(third best tortured hero)
Mistress of Willowvale(you know the pattern by now)
Ask Me Know Questions(no tortured hero, but the very first PV I ever read, so I'll always love it).
A Hawk woman, Rachel
Some Brief Folly (second best tortured hero)
The Tyrant(Third best, etc, etc)
Never Doubt I LOve(too much torture can be very draining)
Ask Me No Questions(my very first Veryan, need I say more?)
Rachel (to whom every PV is the best!)
