Journal entry
Below is a fictional journal entry that I have created which is from mother whom has lost a child and is preparing to celebrate the Day of the Dead Holiday.

10/31/03
Today I have started preparing for the Holiday that is to come very tomorrow.  I went to the store today to get some items we will need for the celebration.  However I did not have to get much because I have been preparing for this day every since I lost my little one.  I picked up some flowers to decorate with and some other decorations.  As for the items and pictures at the oferenda I already have those together.  I feel a little upset because I miss her so much although tomorrow will be a great day with a wonderful celebration for her.
11/1/03
Today we celebrated the loss of my daughter and all of the other loved children that have passed in the family.  I hope she enjoyed the celebration I decorated so nicely for her the oferenda was set up so beautiful.  I put tons of pictures of her with the family and lots of treats, all of her favorite toys, and I even made her favorite meal.
11/2/03
Today we went to the graves of all of our deceased family members early this morning to get a head start on preparing them for the celebration I freshened up the graves by giving them a fresh coat of paint, and pulling all the weeds.  Then I decorated the sites with flower made crosses.  Later in the day we had a wonderful celebration with all of the family.
As for the day of the dead relating to Freire’s perspectives I would say it relates to praxis.  Praxis is the action that is informed and linked to certain values.  The day of the dead definitely makes a difference in the world.  This holiday is also an activity involving respect and is a very important process that enhances the community.
