THE PRESS: RARE CAT FOUND WOUNDED ON PATIO by Mariana Malan A rare, pure bred Tonkinese of Loevenstein
in Bellville was shot with a pellet gun this past week and wounded in
the chest. His owner, Jeanine Grobbelaar of Eksteen Street, found the
cat after work on the patio with blood on his chest after looking for
him for hours. According to Grobbelaar she locks in her cats at night
in the house so that they cannot roam. They are however allowed outside
during the day, and the incident occured during the day. She reported
the case to the Police, who told her that it is illegal to even fire
a pellet gun in a residential area. The police consider cases like this
in a very serious matter and "Official Press Photo" (with 2PAC) |

"Die Burger" dated 28 December 2000. TONKINESE "IMMIGRANTS" MAKE NEST IN TYGERBERG BELLVILLE By Mariana Malan Two Australians with mile long pedigrees are busy settling in in the Tygerberg. Their arrival has caused so much interest amongst cat lovers that there is already a waiting list for their future litters - more than a year before this happening (occurence - choose please). The owner of the Tonkinese Loral Wujar Gundaya (a blue male) and Loral Yamani Jeju (a chocolate coloured female), is Jeanine Grobbelaar of Loevenstein in Bellville. She imported the cats from the breeders Loris and Allan Kerslake of Brisbane. Loris bred the Australian champion Tonkinese two years running. There is according to Grobbelaar at present a worldwide "renewal" of the Tonkinese bered. The cats originate from a crossing between a Burmese and a Siamese. Tonkinese have just been accepted by the South African Cat Countil as breed and Grobbelaar's cats will be seen in March next year for the first time at a official cat show. This show will be held in Durbanville. They will be able to reach championship status within a year. Grobbelaar said she was at one stage very worried about her cats. They travelled five days before reaching her. She did however say that it doesn't look as if Yamani (an Australian Aboriginal name meaning "rainbow serpent of the earth) and Wujar "Mist python") suffered any negative results after their trip. |

"Dear Nini Thank yoy for helping me with my poster. Thank you for comeing to myclass to show them some of your beautiful Tonkinese and enjoy this gift with your cats. Lots of LOVE The Tonkinese Girl" It was SO sweet the entire experience - I took along a bottle of disinfectant - Courtney sprayed all their hands, they then had to line up to take turns to touch the cats. I had to laugh it was so funny - there all 20 were, taking turns quickly touching one, then going to the back of the line. |
