Deuteronomy 30:16
In that I command thee this day to love the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.

With love, we will be blessed wherever we go, and we will be able to fruitfully multiply. The life promised here would be more properly associated with life eternal, since we know that the wicked also live and that they are permitted to live in hope that they may turn to God and Christ for salvation. Even the life that is granted to the wicked will be destroyed if they don’t repent. The fact that this promised life is the eternal life given to the saved is expounded upon in Psalms 145:20.

Proverbs 3:12
For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

Why you may ask, did I include this verse as a blessing? Those who are not corrected are destined to stay on the path that they are on which will lead to their destruction. I thank God that he reminds me and corrects me so that I may know the correct way, and thus stay away from things that would be harmful to me.

Proverbs 8:17-21
I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me. Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness. My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver. I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment: That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.

What a nice collection of promises that are given here. By loving God, we shall find him, and with him we shall find riches, honor, and substance. I want you to focus on the word inherit, this word implies that the promises here are that of an eternal state, when evil is destroyed and the just shall inherit the earth. In this context, we can see that the riches and honor and treasures that he speaks of, are not worldly treasures, but heavenly ones. The treasures he speaks of here, could well be the treasures of the heart. For if we love God and seek him, we would in the process find that peace, happiness, contentment, being loved, and joy are treasures that are worth more than all the substance in the world.

John 10:17
Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.

As we learned earlier, God loves those who love him. With that in mind, we can look at this verse as a blessing of exhibiting love as well as being loved. We are promised life after death, when we express love to God.

John 14:15-16
If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

Again, we see the promise of the dwelling of the Holy Spirit who comforts us when we need comforted.

John 14:21,23
He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

Here we see that if we love God and Christ, God will be known by us, he will love us, and he will live with us. This is also a promise of eternal life and the promise of an incorruptible body since God who is perfect will likewise conform us to his incorruptible state.

John 15:10-11
If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

This is promise of perfect joy and happiness for those that love him by keeping his commandments. This also serves as a little gauge for us to measure our love for God, if we are not full of joy, then we are probably not full of the love of God.

Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

I find this an interesting promise, if we love God, everything will work out eventually no matter what trials and tribulations may come our way. By the same token, we can expect that if we do not love God, that circumstances may bode ill for us and lead to despair.

1 Corinthians 2:9
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

How could I possibly make this any clearer for you. If you think of the greatest things that you could imagine having or possessing in this world, we are promised much, much more if we only love God.

James 1:12
Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

Once again, we are given the promise of eternal life. Sounds good so far, let’s continue a little further. I want to fully express the joy and promises given to those who love Yahweh and Yahshua.

1 John 2:10
He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.

Remember earlier, that we learned that if we love our brothers and sisters, that God will in return love us and manifest himself to us. Knowing this, we know that nothing will make us stray from the path of righteousness, no matter what tribulations and trials we may face.

In the light of all of the scripture that I have presented to you here, do you really think that his commandments were made to no effect? We have done a great injustice to God by doing away with the law of God. In our haste to live our lives however we wish to live, we have strayed from some of the most basic truths presented to us and in effect endangering not only our walks toward righteousness but our children’s and our children’s children. These verses so plainly state that we are to obey the word of God to its fullest spiritual significance that we need to re-examine our lives in light of the instruction that was given to us, and make corrections to that which we do wrongly according to God’s word.

In this last section, I want to close with the punishments that await those who don’t love God and their neighbors, even those that are your enemies and those that hate you.

Deuteronomy 7:9-10
Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations; And repayeth them that hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him that hateth him, he will repay him to his face.

Psalms 145:20
The LORD preserveth all them that love him: but all the wicked will he destroy.

1 John 3:14
We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.

These verses plainly state that those who don’t love God will be destroyed, and that he will not show mercy when punishment is given. He also says that he will do this face to face. I think he will do so because he wants the wicked to finally see that which they can not now see, to realize that they are being judged fairly and that they are truly wrong. The word death from the verse in John is the second, eternal death. I wonder if he will ask them if they now believe in Yahweh’s existence? I shudder to think of standing in his presence knowing that my destruction is inevitable. In this timeframe, “I’m sorry” or “I repent” will not be good enough, it will be too late!

I hope that this little study was helpful in guiding us to the truth in Christ. It is my deepest desire to see that everyone start showing the love that we all desire to have. I hope that you have learned something about yourselves as I have in writing this. We all, truly should be ashamed about the actions that we do. With this knowledge, whether it be new or just a reminder, I hope that we will begin to love a little better, for everyone lacks perfection.

I thank Yahweh my Elohim, for his mercy and grace that I may have eternal life through his son Yahshua my Messiah.
