This beautiful oval console bowl with embossed 'fleur-de-lis" on plain wide panels and elegant winged handles is somewhat rare. Gene Florence has written he looked for one of these for a number of years before he saw one.
Fostoria's Baroque pattern, was made from 1936 - 1966, and is noted for these impressive winged handles, which each have 10 main lustres. These deep lusters act like prisms, bending and relecting the light.
The blanks from this line #2496 were used for many of Fostoria's
etched patterns, including Chintz, Lido, Meadow Rose and Navarre.
The extremely clear crystal glass rings nicely, indicating pre-war lead content, which gave greater clarity than post-war pieces. The age is further confirmed by the weak yellow glow under long wave Ultraviolet light, and the a soft yellow-green glow under short wave UV. The Crystal has aged to a very pale lavender from sitting on a buffet console near a window for many years.
In good condition with no cracks and no significant scratches. The winged handles have two chipped lustres, barely noticeable from the top of the bowl, and three flea-bites on others.
We also have a pair of mint condition Fostoria Baroque 5.5 single light candlesticks. Both this console bowl and the candleabra were also sold by Fostoria as the Flame pattern, line #2484.
