Radiance was introduced by New Martinsville Glass with great fanfare in 1936, and quickly became their top seller. This example, decorated with a lovely etched floral and leaf pattern, called Prelude and was made just before New Martinsville reorganized in 1944 as Viking Glass.
Listed and pictured in these three glass collectors books: Pocket Guide to Depression Glass and More, 1920s - 1960s, 14th Edition, 2005, by Gene and Cathy Florence, on page 151 and Collectors Encyclopedia Depression , 17th Edition, 2006, by Gene and Cathy Florence, on page 185 - 186, and Elegant Glass: Early, Depression and Beyond, 2nd Edition, 2004, by Debbie and Randy Coe, on pages 200-201.
The extremely clear crystal glass rings nicely, indicating pre-war lead content, to improve clarity. The yellow glow under long wave UV, and weak green-yellow glow under short wave UV are consistent with New Martinsville glass made in this era.
In mint condition, with no chips, cracks, scratches or repairs. We also have the matching Sugar Bowl, but it has a half inch chip in the foot which we are looking to repair.
