Fram HPG1 Cannister Fuel Filter

I hate crawling under my Miata to change the fuel filter. Since installing the Sebring SC, I must replace the filter every 20K miles. It was time to change the filter so I decided to "rectify the problem". FRAM makes a high pressure fuel filter that fit the bill. Up to 90 PSI and 10 microns filter.

I decided to mount it where all the oil filter relocation kits recommend - the firewall. The problem is that I have ABS and space on the firewall is at a premium. I had to slightly form the brake line down and build a 1" extension out from the firewall to mount the filter on. It works like a champ.

The cannister and filter cost $39 from Summit Racing & replacement filters cost under $6. I painted the filter housing black (it was FRAM orange). But the cannister itself is chrome. I added the pressure gauge to the output of the filter to aid in detecting low pressure due to dirty filter. Changing the element is a snap - loosen the center bolt, drop and clean the cannister, remove the filter and drop in the new one. Replace the cannister and tighten up the bolt.

I think it looks great under the hood.
