RAILWAY PHILATELY
A BIBLIOGRAPHY
AND GLOSSARY

Part I: Travelling Post Offices and Railway Stations.

Introduction

It was suggested at the Railway Philatelic Group Convention of 2001 that it would be useful if a bibliography of references to railway philately were prepared.

The most pressing difficulty has been how decide on a criterion for inclusion. For countries for which definitive works have been published we have tended to omit articles, which duplicate material found in the books. For countries for which no such definitive works have yet been published we have included even short articles, which shed a little light on the subject. References to TPO before volume 18 have been drawn from the Cumulative Index.

The list is arranged alphabetically by country. For countries not indicated in bold type, no reference is known. References to ‘TPO’ are to the journal of the TPO & Seapost Society. The TPO Cumulative Index for volumes 1-50 is an indispensable tool. References to ‘EMS’ (Eisenbahn Motiv Sammler) are to the journal of the Motivgruppe Eisenbahnwesen.

We are most grateful to Horst Brix, Keith Downing, John Forshaw, Helmuth Hagen, Philip Robinson, Chris Tennant and many others for their help in compiling the bibliography.
