Habitat For Humanity

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit Christian housing organization. They build and renovate houses for people who need shelter. It is an International Organization that was founded in 1976 by Millard Fuller along with his wife Linda. Habitat operates in 92 countries woorldwide. The organization has given homes to almost 1,000,000 people by building more than 200,000 houses.

The houses that Habitat for Humanity builds are sold to the homeowners. They sell the home at no profit. This way of selling the home for as cheap as possible is their way of sustaining their organization by not losing money and it also is so the homeowners do not feel like they are accepting charity. The homeowners also participate in the building of the home. They are right there alongside the other workers doing their part. Habitat for Humanity helps people help themselves.

It is truly amazing all the things that Habitat for Humanity has done for people worldwide. They are always there during any chrisis around the world. They began a new program to help rebuild homes of Hurricane Katrina victims. Last year they ended a campaign called More Than Houses in which they raised $593,775,071, which was $93,775,071 more than their goal.

Habitat is very inspiring. Anyone can volunteer to help them and build homes. My Grandfather has told me that he has helped with Habitat for Humanity many times. He says that it is very fun and fulfilling. They have things everyone can do. It is not just all strenuous labor, there are many other things to be done.

I believe that Habitat for Humanity is making a big difference around the world especially with all the growing proverty rates. Habitat for Humanity helps make sure that families do not have to spend all of their money on their home when they need to buy food for their children.
