Dragster Hood Murial Step By Step How To...
This page is a step by step how to on airbrushing a 1979 camaro dragster hood. I will try to explain each step as clearly as possible and describe the tools and materials that are used in each step.So with this in mind, LETS GET STARTED! |
STEP 1... First I wet sanded the entire hood with 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper.I used a sponge and wrapped the sandpaper around it,this gives a smooth sand to the uneven surfaces of the hood, and at the same time the sponge helps hold the moisture.... SEE FIGURE 1... |

STEP 3... There was a big hole in the edge of the breather on the hood scoop and it was deep with jagged edges. So next I mixed up a polyester finishing and blending putty to fill the hole.I used Dynatron,DYNA-GLAZE and the cream hardner that comes with it.This cost about $16.00 for a 24oz. tube at the auto paint shop.I cut a small piece of cardboard about 8 inches by 8 inches to mix the putty on.I used a small dowell stick to stir it up with.I squeezed out about a golfball sixe of putty and about a dime size of hardner and mixed it all together. You will have to be pretty quick after this because this stuff starts to get hard quick ! The more hardner you use the faster it gets hard. Then I used my stir stick and began filling in the hole. The hole was deep so I kept packing it in until the hole was full and flush with the rest of the hood scoop.I let it dry about 20 minutes until it was rock hard and sanded it down with the 400 grit sandpaper until it was smooth and even with the rest of the hood scoop.See Figure 3... on the next page... |
