I'm a full time educator who entered the professional writing arena in 1992 when Pan Macmillan published the novel Guardians, the first of the successful Andrakis fantasy series. Kingmaker and Dragonlords followed in 1993, and in 1995 Pan published an independent children's fantasy, The Last Wizard, which was shortlisted for the Aurealis Fantasy fiction award.

A succession of short stories in both fantasy and children's genre appeared in various anthologies for Penguin, HarperCollins, AATE, Oxford University Press, Harbinger and Altair magazines throughout 1996-2000.

In 1999 Wakefield Press published my first young adult novel, Joy Ride.

2002 has opened with HarperCollins publishing Blood, book one in the Ashuak Chronicles, with Passion and Freedom to follow in 2003. HarperCollins have also contracted to publish a young adult novel, Adam, also in 2003.

I'm also undertaking a PhD in English at Flinders University with a focus on censorship of teenage literature. The final product for the PhD will include an exegesis focussing on teenage writers in South Australia and the censorship issue and a new novel, In My Father's Shadow.

I've worked as a tutor for WEA writing courses, and lectured and marked part-time for the Adelaide Institute of TAFE Professional Writing Unit where I wrote and co-wrote two course books: Fiction 2 - The Novel and An Introduction to Styles and Conventions. I've acted as a judge for the 1998 Aurealis Horror fiction awards, appeared as a guest writer at the 2000 Adelaide Festival of Arts Writers' Week and for a succession of SAETA Meet the Writers conferences, and as a judge for the National Childrens' Literature Award for the 2002 Adelaide Festival of Arts. Where time permits I remain an active speaker, tutor and workshop convenor for the SA Writers' Centre and in schools.

My literary agent, Robert Stephenson of Altair Agency, works tirelessly to promote my writing, and booking agent Carole Carroll arranges my visits to schools and speaking engagements.

I currently reside in Adelaide and work full time as Head of English at Concordia College.
