Computer Games
In 1962, Steve Russell invented the first interactive computer game at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (usually referred to as MIT).He first played the game with Shag Graetz and Alan Kotok. The name of the game was SpaceWar! and they played it on a computer called the PDP-1. Players fired at each other's spaceships and used early versions of joysticks to move. You can play a replica of Spacewar here.

The next computer game was called Adventure. It was made by Donald Woods in the late 1960's. Unlike Spacewar, Adventure used no computer graphics whatsoever. Instead, it used text to tell a story that players could interact with. The computer would tell you where you were and what you could see. You had to use your imagination and enter commands like "Go west" or "Get box".

Computer games have changed a lot in the past 40 years. Now they look more realistic and have sounds and music. Programmers find new ways of developing the programs every year, so they will probably continue changing and getting better.
