Thanks for visiting my little web site. I hope you found something of use to you whether it be for amusement or the actual gain of knowledge. This started as a curiosity thing and turned into a real living and breathing thing…of sorts.

My name is Tony Scott. I’m a 30 year old system design engineer for a local telecommunications company. Outside of work, I’m a bike junkie. For those of you who ride on a consistent basis or race, you know exactly what I mean. Biking is unlike any other sport I’ve ever done. It becomes much larger than a sport. It becomes a way of life. Unless you’re in it, you wouldn’t understand.

I grew up in a small town in Washington state where I lived until I was 18 years old. After high school, with no direction and no ambition to further my education, I enlisted into the military. My training was in the field of switching systems. I was stationed at Ft Jackson, South Carolina (Basic training) Ft Gordon (Once for training and once as permanent duty), Korea, and the White House. Yes, the big house on the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington D.C. I'll spare you all of the interesting things I saw, heard and experienced as well as all of the travel stories.

In brief, I was a member of his communications support team. While in D.C., I helped run the White House secure switch and while on the road, which was a lot, we were respnsible for setting up anything and everything associated with communications. Basicaly, we replicated the White House's communications systems in every city he visited. A lot of it, I'm still not allowed to talk about due to National Security issues. Ever heard the cliche, "If I told you, I'd have to kill you."? Well, they'd have to kill ME.

After 4 years of traveling around the world and working insane hours there, and investing 8 1/2 total years in the military, I figured it was time for me to start making some real money.

I now work for a local telecommunications company here in Atlanta where I'm a system design engineer. In a nutshell, I evaluate customer fiber optic equipment requests for connectivity, feasibilty and cost efficiency. I determine what equipment will be needed to handle the needs of the order. If the order meets the company's business goals, I submit the order for the required equipment.

Cycling - I used to be a decent runner in my younger years. I could run low 30 minute 10k's on a consistent basis. One day while running in Chicago, my hip started hurting. After several doctors visits with no findings, I was forced to find another sport. I could walk just fine, but as soon as I'd take one running stride, the pain would shoot through my hip.

A co-worker of mine at the Big House was a cyclist. He used to always bring Tour videos into work and I'd always be like, "Man, turn that boring stuff off!" After my injury, I paid closer attention to his rants about cycling. He had an extra bike, so I decided to join him for a ride one day. A short time later, I bought my own bike.

A couple of months later, we did the Virginia State time trial championships together. He was a CAT 3 and I was still a new CAT 5. They had all the categories mixed together with their starting times. He ended up starting two minutes ahead of me. I can still remember the look on his face as I passed him half way through the race.
