This is Bloodshed's first (short) album on Tooth & Nail. These guys play a combination of emo, hard core and alternative rock. The album has 5 songs, called 'The Scarlet Letter', 'Martha', 'Table Top', 'Outside' and 'Last Breath'.
Although this album has a total of only 20 minutes, it's a great one to listen to. At least, when you're not in a sing-along mood, because the lyrics are hard to hear here! I like the fact that there's a person actually singing besides the screaming singer. Don't think that i don't like the screaming, you know i like my share of screaming in Selfmindead, Blindside and Innermeans, but it's kind of refreshing to hear a combination of screaming and singing/whispering. It's also great that this band uses clean guitars every now and then! Walls of distortion are teaming up with the splendor of subtle, clean guitars. The songs are a mixture of slower and faster parts. The lyrics all seem quite poetic to me, e.g. the first part of 'Scarlet Letter':
As the clouds drift in
the sky
The black rose begins to bloom
Hypocrisy grows louder
Of shuttering cries of what was you
Of course it's
possible you don't agree here with me, but i think these lyrics are beautiful!
