Slick Shoes - "Burn Out" (TN1105)

When a band releases its second album, it often gives an indication whether the band is really good or that their debute was a "lucky shot" and the future of the band is uncertain. I was wondering how this album would be, because Slick Shoes' debute "Rusty" is one of my all time favorite albums and because I knew that Dale Yob (who is also in the Cootees) joined this band. In comparison to "Rusty", "Burn Out" is a more mature album. The band has developed its ability to write songs and all members have become more experienced musicians. Dale's guitar play has added a "harder" noise to the band, because the stuff that Jackson Mould had to do on his own before, is done by Dale and Jackson now. Because Dale produces the tight Slick Shoes punk rock sound, Jackson can totally dedicate his guitar play to playing great & amazing metal-like licks. Singer Ryan, I guess he's about 16 years old now, still does his thing with his great voice and fast sung words.

I think this album isn't really surprising when you've heard "Rusty", but it's a more mature album and because of the extra guitar, it all sounds better and harder. Slick Shoes certainly is one of the most, if not THE MOST, exciting bands in the christian punk rawk scene!
