MxPx - "On The Cover" EP (TN1044)

On this album, MxPx, whose members are Mike (vocals, bass), Yuri (drums) and Tom (guitar), plays their favorite "old" songs. It just happened to be that there are 2 of my favorite songs on it! I used to listen a lot to Bryan Adams and my favorite Adams song was (is) "Summer Of '69". It is so cool to hear this song played by my all time favorite band MxPx! After you've heard their "Summer Of '69", you can't stand the song anymore when sung by Bryan Adams. He is as slow as a turtle compared to rawkin' MxPx! Same goes for AHA's "Take On Me" (another of my all time favorites)!

My favorite song on this mini-album (8 songs) though, is "You Found Me", which was written by The Altar Boys. I'd never heard of them, but if the original song is as cool as MxPx's, they must have been really cool!

"Drum Machine Joy" was originally performed by BEC band Joy Electric and I think MxPx did a great job on covering this, originally dance (kind of), song. Great drums!!!

Oldest song covered on this album is "Oh Boy" (Buddy Holly). Together with "You Put This Love In My Heart" (Keith Green), they're nice sing-alongs with kewl backing vocals. "Marie, Marie" (The Blasters) is a rockabilly song and done great by MxPx (I normally don't like rockabilly, so this song has to be cool else I wouldn't like it!).

The song that ends the album is called "No Brain" and was originally performed by The Cootees, the other band where Mike and Tom play in. It's a really cool song and I think it's a little strange that it hasn't been put on The Cootees' debute album "Let's Play House".

In short: a very nice, though short, little MxPx album, even for those who think punk rock is too loud. And if you can get a copy of it on vinyl, you even get loads of songs extra, which aren't on the cd!
