NOTE: If you're using your computer to play Chrono Trigger, Read this first:
I noticed that many people have been asking me about the part when you get to the future and you can't see anything in the domes.
Well, in that case, you should read the read-me file for the emulator that you are using. Look for the part that talks about toggling background, the readme from the SNES9x looks like this:
'0' Toggle H-DMA emulation on/off.
'1' Toggle background 1 on/off (useful for speeding up the
'2' Toggle background 2 on/off emulation and for ROMs
'3' Toggle background 3 on/off that use colour addition in
'4' Toggle background 4 on/off a certain way, e.g. Zelda)
'5' Toggle sprites (OBJs) on/off
'6' Toggle swapping of joy-pad one and two around
'7' Take a snapshot of the current screen and save it to a file.
'8' Toggle background layer priorities for backgrounds involved in sub-screen addition/subtraction.
If you turn off background three, (I think, I'm not too sure, I suggest experimenting with the numbers) you'll be able to see the background. The problem is that you won't be able to read the text, so if you talk to someone, press the same button again. Don't worry, you'll be able to see the words, but the background will be fog until you hit the button again.
I hope that helped a bit...
Now on to the real beginning...
The Beginning: Crono's House
You start out at Crono's house. His mom wakes him up. After your mom talks to you, talk to her again for your allowance. Then go to the other houses and take stuff from the chests. Then go to the Millennial Fair. There are 7 main things at the Fair:
1. The Foot Race
2. The Ghost Tent
3. Main Area where you first enter
4. Gato
5. Dancing Place
6. Leene's Bell
7. Lucca's Invention
#1 is the 4 critters running around the main part of the fair. If you go to the tent on the right side of the inner area, you can bet on you will win. There is an old man nearby who will tell you who will win, but sometimes it works in a pattern. I think he says whos gonna win 3 races after this race.
#2 is the tent where you pay 10, 40 or 80 silver points to win stuff. If you play the 10 point game, you can win a Poyozo Doll. It just plays a lullaby, so it's kinda boring. If you play the 40 point game, you can win a Crono Clone. All you have to do is mimic the clone long enough and you'll win it. The controls are: L = Raise left hand, R = Raise right hand, A = Surprise, Y = Laugh. I don't know what the 80 point games gives you, but I think it's either cat food or a cat.
#3 is the area of the fair when you first enter. There are two vendors and Melchior the swordsmith. There are also various games on the edges so check the whole parameter of the fair.
#4 is Gato is one of Lucca's working inventions. You can fight it and win for 15 silver points.
#5 is the dancing place at the opposite side of Gato. There, you can dance to a Jurassic rhythm by pressing L, R, X & Y.
#6 is Leene's bell. This is where you meet Marle. This is also the area where you can exchange your silver points for cash.
#7 is Lucca's Invention, the Telepod. This how the whole story begins...
I'm not telling you very much about the story line and game play because I want you to figure some of this stuff out on your own. I'm just gonna put in some guiding hints and tips.
You go back into time to 600 AD. Once again, you go into the village and talk to people and take stuff from chests. (It's a heck of a lot cheaper than actually buying stuff) Your first boss, Yakra, will be in the Cathedral. Remember: THE ORGANS ARE THE KEY!!! This boss has no weaknesses, but he shoud be gone after a good several rounds of double teching. Then you leave 600 AD.
When you come back to 1000 AD, Marle will leave you and you will have a slight problem with the law. The next boss you and Lucca have to fight will be the dreaded Dragon Engine. I hate it because the head keeps healing itself. So, destroy it in this order: Head, Grinder then the tank itself. Then Marle will rejoin you and you go into the forest. Go to the dead end (you don't have a choice, guards will be following you) and there will be a time portal there. Go in and you will be in a dome in 2300 AD.
The future is simple. Just go into Trann dome, get the info and stuff you need, then go to Lab 16. Once through Lab 16, Go to Arris Dome and defeat the robot in the basement. Defeat the 2 bits first, then defeat the main body. If the main body regenerates the bits, repeat the process until the whole thing is destroyed. That's how to defeat most of the bosses in this game. Then you'll just have to explore on your own.
Once you have done all the tasks that need to be done in this dome, then go on to Lab 32. You must have the key that Doan, the old man in Arris Dome, gives you. If not, go back to the dome and talk to him. When you get to Lab 32, you'll have to race Johnny. You have 3 nitros. Use them towards the end of the race. Then you will end up on the other side. Go to Proto Dome first, get Robo, then go to the factory. Take Lucca with you, she'll say more things than Marle will. She is also more powerful than Marle. After you get to the next time gate, you'll end up at the End of Time.
At the End of Time, the old man, Gaspar, will tell you what to do next. The room behind him holds Spekkio, the god of war, who will give you the most powerful thing in this game, magic. Spekkio, will tell you to walk around the room clockwise 3 times. Touch the corners of the room and you get magic.
After that you will head on to Medina Village, 1000 AD. I'm starting to get lazy, so I'll just tell you briefly what to do.
Fight Heckran in Heckran Mountain. Whatever you do, DON'T USE A NORMAL ATTACK! ALWAYS USE MAGIC! After that, you'll be transported to a portal near Lucca's house. Go to the time gate in the fair and go to 600 AD.
The bridge is repaired, but you'll have to fight a boss at the end of it. Use ice magic on the top part and fire magic on the lower part. Then look for Frog in the Cursed woods near the lower village on the continent. Talk to Frog, then go to the Denadoro Mts. There you will have to fight Masa & Mune. Defeat Masa, Then the two brothers will join forces. Give them everything you've got, because they have no weaknesses that I have discovered, but Fire Sword seems to work well. Then they will give you the broken blade of the Masamune sword. Then go to Tata's House in the lower village and he will give you a Hero's Medal. Then go talk to Frog again and you will find the broken hilt where he was standing. The hilt says Melchior on it. You know where to go.
After talking to Melchior, go to 65 million BC. Go with the storyline, it's not hard to follow. Hint: Use lightning magic on the cave creatures because they fear thunder & lightning. After returning from the past, go to 1000 AD and Melchior and Lucca will repair the sword. Then go to 600 AD and give the sword to Frog. Then Frog will join your party. You'll have to go through Magic Cave before entering Magus' Lair. I forgot if there's a boss there or not, but be prepared. You all go to Magus' lair and you battle Flea, Slash and Ozzie. Here's how to nuke'em:
Flea
He's the cross-dresser whose magic is powerful. Just keep using your most powerful magic and keep up your HP and you'll be OK.
Slash
There are 3 stages with fighting with him. #1, Is like a normal boss. Just keep pounding him with techs or magic. #2, He'll take a sword off the wall. Don't use magic unless you wanna be creamed. #3, He'll start counter attacking so watch your HP.
Ozzie
You'll just have to chase him through the castle until he gets fed up and turns into a block of ice. Hit the chains around him and he'll fall through a hole. Strange way to beat a boss huh?
Then you have fight Magus. I suggest bringing Lucca, because Frog and Crono have to be there. It took me 25 minutes to beat him, so be careful and watch your HP. It's best to be at a level where your full HP is over 300, because one of Magus' attacks can cost you 250 HP. He's a really annoying boss because he casts a spell, then only that type of magic can harm him. If he casts Lightning, only Crono can use magic on him. The rest will just have to attack. After you beat Magus you all get sucked into a portal and end up in 65 million BC again. Help Ayla defeat the Reptites at Tyrann Lair and you will find a portal. That portal will transport you to 12,000 BC.
You end up in the Ice Age. Find Skylights, because those lead you to the Magical Kingdom of Zeal, the really cool place that's all 3D and stuff. Explore everything, as you will not return for a long time. Go to Zeal Palace and explore everything there. Go on with the story line, blah blah blah. Soon after you enter the center chamber in the palace, a monster called Golem is teleported there, and it fights you. It's quite difficult to beat, since its physical attack can cost you 400 HP. To avoid that, use lightning magic (the monster mimics your type of attack, so DO NOT USE ANY PHYSICAL ATTACKS!) The ending is the same whether you beat it or not, because at the end, you'll still be jailed by Queen Zeal. Schala saves you, and then you'll be expelled from 12,000 B.C. She also puts a seal on the time portal, so that you cannot return to 12,000 B.C. Going back to 65 million BC, Lucca remembers that there are several secret doors in 2300 AD. Now you can open them. There are 3 mysterious doors in 2300 AD. There are treasures in 2 of the doors.
Now go to the sewer access in 2300 AD. Follow the frogs and they will lead you to the mini-boss. As you go there, don't touch anything, not even the save point because monsters will appear if you do.
When you get to the other side, you'll see Death Peak, and another dome called the Keeper's Dome. Go inside and talk to the Nu. (A Nu is one of those weird blue critters with green hair.) Previously, a man named Belthasar lived there. But when you get there, he has passed on and has copied his memory into the Nu. The Nu will tell you everything you need to know, and give you the Epoch. The Epoch is the default name for the Time machine. You can name it whatever you want. Now the Epoch can't fly... yet. Use the Epoch to go to the end of time and talk to Gaspar. Then save your game and go to 12,000 BC using the Epoch.
When you land, you'll be at one of the land continents. Go to Terra Cave and explore the village of the earthbound ones. At the bottom of the village is a cave near a save point. SAVE YOUR GAME!!! When you enter the cave, you will find some normal beasts. Just keep attacking. Then at the end of the cave, there will be a red and blue beast and an imp. Use fire on the blue beast and ice or water on the red beast. The best thing to do that I did was get Frog, Crono and Lucca and cast Delta Storm. If you don't have this, go out of the cave and go back in to fight the first two normal beasts then go out again until you have this spell. After about 4-6 Delta Storms, the bosses will all die. Then go back and save your game. The beasts will not come out again. Then walk up the chain and you will be on Mount Woe. Then you have to fight Giga Gaia. What ever you do, DON'T ATTACK!!! USE MAGIC!!! Kill the arms first, then concentrate on the head. If the arms get regenerated, kill them again. After 5-6 Delta Storms, it should be destroyed.
After that, Melchior comes out. He tells you what to do. Then you have to go to the Ocean Palace. Get there by going back to Zeal and into the main chamber in the palace. You have to fight Dalton. After you beat him, you will see a portal. It will take you to the Ocean Palace. There are switches you have to hit in order for the gate to the main room to open. Make sure that Crono gets the most powerful Lightning magic: Luminare. It costs 20 MP, but it does a lot of damage. When you get there, you'll have to fight a boss. I think it's the Golem Twins. Don't attack! (You should know that by now.) After about 6 Luminares, the twins should be destroyed. Then go into the main chamber. Watch and see what happens! After the big cinematic scene, you'll find that one of your characters is missing. (Gee, I wonder who that could be?) You end up in the Remaining Village. Get Ayla, Marle & Robo. Go to the Commons, and Dalton will capture you. Take Ayla before you do this because you will find that after you get captured, your money, items, armor and weapons will all have been stolen. This is why I recommend Ayla because she can't get her weapon taken from her. Climb up the air vents and find all your stuff. Sometimes you'll have to get down from the air vents to find the room where all your stuff is. One of the vents shows Dalton putting wings on the Epoch.
After you got all your stuff, go out to the left wing. Avoid all the robots then get to the edge of the wing. You'll have to fight the Golem Boss. You know what to do. Then you'll have to fight Dalton. He is flying the Epoch around, which means you'll have to fight him in there. Destroy him and do what the characters say. Watch the climatic scene. Then land the Epoch near the northern part of the island. Go to the North Cape. You'll find Magus there. He'll tell you about the past and who he really is. Then he'll ask if you want to fight him. If you say yes, you'll kill him. If you say no, he'll join your group. (Ever wonder why there is an extra spot when you switch characters in the End of Time?) Now you have only one thing to do... Get Crono.
Get to 1000 AD in the Millennial Fair. Then go to the tent of horrors and play the 40 point game. If you win, you'll get a Crono Clone. You should have done this in the beginning, but you don't have to. Anyway, go to Crono's house, get the clone and then go to the End of Time. Gaspar will give you the Chrono Trigger. That will stop time. Now go to the future and go to the Keeper's dome. Talk to the Nu and he'll tell you what to do. He'll also release 3 Poyozo dolls to lend a hand on Death Peak. Poyozo dolls look kinda like sheep. The first one will tell you to stay behind trees so you're not blown off. The second will tell you to be careful of the slippery ledge. The third one will tell you to push the shell, climb the shell. There are 3 Lavos Spawns. They are like mini-Lavos, except they are much easier to beat. Don't attack the shell, as it will counter attack. Just attack the head. After you beat the third Lavos Spawn, switch Marle into your group if you don't already have her. There's something special when you get to the peak.
After you get back Crono, There are 6 Tasks you must do before you go on to Lavos. I'll list them in order of ease:
#1 - Cyrus' Tomb
Bring Frog for this task. Talk to him at the End of Time and he will tell you where the tomb is. Go to the tomb in 600 AD, because if you go to the one in 1000 AD, you'll meet an undefeatable boss. When you go, it will be called Northern Ruins. Go to the Cafe and there will be a carpenter drinking. He looks like Taban (Lucca's Father). He will tell you that his tools are missing. Go to the carpenter's house in 1000 AD. The wife will give you his tools. Then go back to 600 AD. Give the tools to the carpenter and he will fix the Northern Ruins. Go there and he will tell you that the monsters need to be destroyed before he can fix the rest. You'll have to do this 3 times. At the end you'll come up to the Tomb of Cyrus. When you come out, it will be called Hero's Grave.
#2 - The Rainbow Shell & the King being tried
Go to the inn on the continent with the Hero's Grave in 600 AD. Go in and talk to Toma. He will give you the Toma Pop. Got to his grave on West Cape. Watch the cut scene and go to the place he told to go to in 600 AD. Go inside and you will see that this is actually the remains of Tyrann Lair (remember?) The boss, called the Rust Tyranno, there is much like the Black Tyranno in Tyrann Lair, but it is much harder (well, not much). Defeat it and go towards the back of the cave. You will find the Rainbow Shell. You'll find that it is too heavy for you. Go to Guardia Castle and the king will send some troops to help you. Then go to 1000 AD and you will find out that the King is being held on trial. Now switch Marle into your group if she isn't already there. Marle will order the guards to move out of the way so you can get through to the courthouse. The chancellor is charging the King for losing the Rainbow Shell. Go back to the main hall and go right from the first door. You will find 2 wings instead of one. The wing on the left leads to the kitchen. The second leads to the basement with the Rainbow shell. There will be some monsters, but with your level they should be gone with one hit. You find the Rainbow Shell. Take the Rainbow shell to the Courthouse. You get in somehow and then you have to fight a boss: Yakra XIII. It is the same as the first Yakra you fought, except it's stronger. Destroy Yakra, watch and see what happens and then leave the courthouse. Go back in and you will find the Yakra Key. Go to one of the rooms in as you go downstairs to the locked chest. You will find something interesting. Then go back to the basement and Melchior will be there. He will give you the choice of 3 Prism Helms or 1 Prism Dress. The Prism Dress is more powerful, but if you want to protect more people, pick the Helms.
#3 - Ozzie as the new Mystic Leader
Go to 600 AD. Go East of Magus' Lair and you will find Ozzie's Fortress. Go in there and search the rooms. I think you should figure the maze out on your own. If you really need help, E-Mail me. You'll have to fight Slash and Flea again. Just use the same strategies as the first time. At the very end, you'll have to fight all three at once. Just concentrate on them one at a time until they are all gone. If you want to steal something, Get Ayla and use her Charm Tech. Once you have defeated them Ozzie will turn into a block of ice again and well... you know what to do.
#4 - Turning Desert into Forest
I hope you have reverance for life or else this is gonna be one tough task. Go to the Commons in 12,000 BC. A lady with a plant will ask you if she should burn the sapling or care for it. Say care for it and fly to 600 AD. Now you can also find the lady with the plant in Zeal somewhere and she will ask you the same thing. Say care for it. I hope you read this before you told her to burn it or else you'll be messed up. Anyway, in 600 AD there is a house in the middle of the desert. It is Fiona's Villa. Go inside and she will tell you what she needs you to do. Then go to the Sunken Desert (The little dark whirl in the desert) and get all the stuff in there and fight the creatures. They are all afraid of Ice magic, so bring Marle. The boss, the Retinite, is pretty tough. Whatever you do, don't kill the core. Trust me. Attack the top then the bottom then the core. Once you have destroyed the Retinite, go back to Fiona's Villa. Switch Robo into your group and talk to Fiona. Leave Robo with Fiona and fly to 1000 AD. Her house has become Fiona's Shrine. You can pick up Robo there. Everyone will spend the night in the forest. Lucca will wake up and she will find a portal. She goes inside and finds that she is in 990 AD, before the ACCIDENT! Now Lucca's mom if you haven't noticed has no legs. They were sawed off in an accident. Walk into the kitchen first and read the paper. It will tell you what the password is to stopping the machine. Go to the machine in the front of the house and input the password. It's a password using the control pad so if the letter is Y, you would press Y on your control pad. Anyway, stop the machine and you will end up in your room. Go back into the portal and Robo will be waiting for you. He will give you a ring.
#5 - Robo's Birthplace
Talk to Robo at the End of Time and he will tell you about his birthplace. He thinks it is infected. Bring him with you because you're gonna need his codes to enter the place. The main frame always calls Robo by his original name: Prometheus. There are 4 tasks you must do before going on to the boss. Go to the central computer and it will tell you what to do. After passing the save point, Robo will meet up with his friend. His friend is also infected. Only Robo can fight it so I hope you have the Shock tech. After beating it, go back and save. Then go on to the mainframe room. There is the Mother boss and 3 computers. Luminare, Shock and Flare will take everything out quickly. Then the whole place just shuts itself down. Robo will find the Terra Arm and the Crisis Arm here.
#6 - Sun Stone
Go to 65 million BC first. There in the trading house, there will be Ruby Armor (80% Fire Protection) that you can trade for 10 of each item; Petal, Feather, Fang & Horn. Go to the Hunting Grounds northeast of the village if you don't have enough. Once everyone has been equipped with the Ruby Armor, Go to the future. Look for the Sun Palace. It's somewhere in the southern hemisphere on an island. Go inside and there will be a boss that is an eye with 5 flames circling it. Hit each of the flames until you see the eye take some damage. Then concentrate on that flame. DON'T ATTACK THE MAIN EYE!!! If you do you'll get it's powerful counter attack. Every once in a while the flames will rotate. Then you'll have to find the flame that will damage the eye again. Once you beat it, the boss will turn into the Moon Stone. Take it and go to 65 Million BC and place it under the light in the Sun Keep. Then go to 1000 AD and you'll find that the stone is missing. Fly around and you'll find a house with sparkles around it. Go inside and the people will deny taking the stone. Go to the restaurant in the same village (the one with the monster piano player) and buy the jerky from the owner. Go to the family in 600 AD and the lady will want to buy the Jerky. Just give it to her, no money. Fly back to the future and the family will give you back the stone. Place it back into Sun Keep and fly to 2300 AD. Pick up the stone (now the Sun Stone) and fly to 1000 AD to Melchior's Hut. There he will make Crono's greatest weapon: Rainbow (critical hit 70%). Then take it to Lucca's house and she will make her greatest weapon: Wondershot (damage varies). Sometimes it will hit 50 HP, sometimes it will hit 3000 HP!
There are only two things left, the Black Omen and Lavos.
Black Omen
It’s just like the Ocean Palace, except there are 3 mutant bosses. Once you get through the entire palace, you’ll have to fight Queen Zeal. Remember: DON’T ATTACK THE HANDS!!! If you do, they will counter-attack. Just concentrate on the head. Use your most powerful magic that only affects one enemy.
Lavos
I suggest taking Crono, Lucca & Robo in that order. First you’ll find a big machine. Use Crono & Lucca to attack with their most powerful magic, Luminare & Flare. Use Robo to keep up your HP. After you destroy the robot, you’ll have to destroy the core. There is the main core and 2 bits. The bit on the left only responds to normal attacks & techs. Don't use your magic or a tech that needs magic, as you will just heal it. Destroy the bit on the left with Crono's Confuse attack, then once it’s gone, use your most powerful magic to destroy the other bit and the core. I suggest using that Dual tech that Lucca and Robo have, DoubleV Bomb. The reason I put Robo in that position is because he will be closest to the right bit. If the left bit is regenerated, attack it again until it is gone. This is because if you attack anything else while the left bit is alive, it will heal everything, making your progress for naught. Repeat this process until you have destroyed the right bit. Once that's destroyed, the other parts will die with it.
