Sakorn Yangkhiawsod (alias "Joe Louis") consecrated "National Artist" in 1996, has given new birth to Thai traditional puppetry. Today his troup is the only one in Thailand that still performs this wonderful and unique kind of puppet play, and he has been frequently taken his art abroad, at international festivals as well as special organised tours in France, Switzerland, Germany, Japan, Egypt and the United States.

Different from other Thai traditional puppets, the Joe Louis puppet play is performed in a special way in which three manipulators control one puppet in order to give very lively movements. The most important story played by Joe Louis Theater is "the Ramayana" (in Thai, "Ramakien"), a famous play in Thailand and neighboring countries.

From Soul .......... To artistic work. Pictured above is the painstaking process of producing Thai traditional masks (Hua Khon), as taught by well-known artist Joe Louis to all his students. Inthis program, you will be able to witness the entire process of making Thai traditional masks before the perfoemance.
