Gymnastics:

"My best events are vault and beam. I like vault because it's quickly done. I know I can mess up in that small amount of time but I can't get tired or get nervous on vault, it happens and then I'm done. My weakness is on floor, where I get tired at the end and I end up falling and breaking my ankles sometimes lol and bars is usually my best event, results wise. I scored a 9.750 with a broken ankle at nationals so I can actually say it's a good event for me but not my favorite. I get awful rips and I think we train too much bars!! My only weakness on beam is that if I start thinking about how I'm up on beam and I shouldn't fall, etc if I wanna do well, then I'll fall, it's all in the psychology."

Biography:

Marissa was born in Red Deer, Alberta on November 28th, 1988, making her 14. She's lived in Houston, TX since she was 8 and she considers herself a Texan Canadian. She has a complicated family history and divorced parents. She was a 2002 Olympian and has considered retiring after the Games, having so many injuries. She decided to take a few months off and "get fixed" and is back in the game, saying her career isn't going to be done before starting. She was a state winning diver for about 3 months but slamming into the board once and one too many belly flops made her decide it was not for her. Marissa is an 8th grader at Northumberland Academy in Crownpoint, Indiana and is the reigning Miss Northumberland. She'd also like to be in the student counsil next year, if her training schedule allows it. Her goal in life is to be a well educated, well balanced person, not just a gymnast who knows nothing else but how to flip and she likes to be involved in school and having friends outside of gymnastics. but mostly, she wants to have a bone left in her body that's never been in a cast when she retires!
