Soyon Klacie coaches the Lilly Squad, but works with all the girls on beam and floor along with her husband Michael. Her coaching philosophy is based on the idea that athletes need a postive atmosphere and lots of encouragement. She tries to connect with her athletes on a personal level, particularly those on her squad. Soyon is light-hearted and friendly, and rarely gets angry. Like her husband, she is a firm believer in perfect posture and balletic movement as a basis for all gymnastics, but she goes out of her way to help each athlete achieve this in her own way. All the girls in the gym know they can turn to Soyon with any problem or concern.
Biography
Soyon was born on May 13, 1972, in Washington D.C., and lived there with her parents until heading to Stanford University after high school. She married Michael Klacie after freshman year, and after graduation followed him to Seattle to teach high school English and coach the girls gymnastics team. In 1997, their only son Benjamine was born.
