After over 50 years of being overweight, I was initially motivated in 1997 by a diagnosis of peripheral vascular disease (loss of circulation) due to obesity - lose the weight by better food management and exercise, or face possible leg amputation.
That was the beginning of becoming half the person I used to be! I was virtually immobile, my first sneakers had Velcro fasteners, clothes were custom made. I could barely walk a block, and now walk at least three miles without resting!
With the Fit or Fat guidance of author Covert Bailey, and Bob Greene and Oprah's book "Make The Connection," along with the weight loss support group TOPS, the inspiration of Milka Mandich, M.D. and nutritionist Jan Ovans-Davie, M.S., I had the fundamental, logical steps to attain my goal. Balanced food management, exercise, keeping a food journal, hydrating, doctors and TOPS became my focus, and are my life's commitment.
