Nathaniel
and Calathra each enter the pit, one from either gate,
and walk slowly towards the middle where they find Bret
standing.
"Alright you two," Bret begins, "since
this is the first official fight that I am presiding
over I have decided to keep things simple. First off
Calathra you will not have you animal companions in
here this time. Second, if one or both of you fall
unconscious, you will be revived in accordance with
the Pit's policy. Other than that I want a good fight."
With that said Bret leaves through the gate that Nathaniel
came through and heads for his observation box. Once
seated Bret raises his hand to begin, and the combatants
back up to their starting positions of twenty feet
from each gate. Bret drops his hand and the fight
is set into motion.
Calathra while studying her opponent starts to casts
her mage armor spell. Nathaniel realizing that he
is facing a spellcaster charges Calathra, and swings
his mace just after she finishes her spell scoring
a solid hit to her stomach.
Calathra still reeling from the force of the attack
hurriedly casts another shielding spell in the hopes
that it will protect her from further harm. Nathaniel
hoping to get in another solid blow moves around to
Calathra's side and attempt to hit her arm but misses
his target by a wide margin. Calathra responds by
futilely swinging her club at Nathaniel's knees.
Calathra deciding that her weapon is not her strong
suit right now casts ray of frost at Nathaniel catching
him with it in the chest. Seemingly unfazed by her
spell, Nathaniel responds by casting freezing hands,
which hits Calathra hard nearly ending her fight.
Seeing the Nathaniel has not been harmed by her cold
spell, Calathra summons a tiny viper to aid her in
the fight. Nathaniel seeing the newly summoned snake
attacks it with his mace but misses his small target.
The viper lunges at Nathaniel while he is off balance
and bites him just below the knee, and injects Nathaniel
with venom that makes him feel as if he just ran a
marathon.
Calathra and Nathaniel trade more failed strikes
with each other in vain attempts to wear each other
down. The viper in the midst of the melee manages
to hit Nathaniel again, before it vanishes, but its
venom has no further affect on him.
Calathra retrieves a potion vial from her pack and
tries to drink it. Nathaniel assuming that the vial
contains a healing liquid swings his mace at her in
an attempt to break the vial before Calathra can drink
it. Just as Nathaniel's swing misses her by a safe
margin, Calathra drinks her potion and feels immediately
refreshed in time to dodge another swing by Nathaniel.
Calathra tries to hit Nathaniel in the knees with
her club and misses badly, nearly dropping her weapon.
Nathaniel swings his mace while Calathra is off balance
but the blow is deflected by one of her shielding
spells.
Calathra, growing wearing with the fight, attempts
to hit Nathaniel with another ray of frost but misses
her opponent. Nathaniel, weary from the viper's bite
earlier in the match casts his freezing hands spell
again hitting Calathra's torso solidly a second time
with the cold blast.
Calathra attempts her ray of frost spell again only
to miss her opponent widely. Nathaniel uses his last
memorization of freezing hands and nearly wins the
fight but is stunned that Calathra withstood two attacks
from that spell.
Calathra summons a second viper, which she hopes
will take Nathaniel down. Nathaniel ignores the viper,
feeling that he can win the fight before it kills
him, attacks Calathra with his mace and narrowly misses
her. The viper attacks Nathaniel's right leg and manages
to miss its desired mark leaving him unaffected by
its poison.
Calathra, growing increasingly agitated at the length
of the fight, swings her club at Nathaniel missing
him yet again. Nathaniel takes the opportunity to
strike at the viper but misses such a small target
for a second time. The viper make its own failed attack
on Nathaniel before vanishing from where it came.
Calathra howls in anger leaving her open to another
attack from Nathaniel, which barely misses her. Driven
by anger, Calathra hits Nathaniel solidly in the ribs
and knocks him to the ground, unconscious and breathless.
The triumphant halfling screams loudly in victory.
You both will receive full healing from the Pit's
resident medical staff.
