Below are the matches for Week 12.
The deadline for tactics is February 25th. Have fun!
MAZE MATCH - Alsimane |
COMBATANTS: Dis Loveth
of the Jarnack vs. Melquiades vs. Ralmauthar |
Alsimane checks the vision of his left eye
before it swells completely shut, and grunts with
some satisfaction that it seems unimpaired. Already
beginning to turn blue-black, the contusion that
covers his face from jaw to the now dented rim
of his legionnaire's helm begins to throb malevolently.
The great club which caused it lies on the ground,
next to the corpse of its owner.
Panting with exertion he kicks the huge
carcass of the minotaur and curses, "Damn
Torgal Westran!" As if it wasn't enough,
openning yet another world-portal into the city
of Waterdeep; a city already cursed with enough
interplanar invasion routes. This damned Inn,
or Pit or whatever by Gehenna it is, seems connected
to a multitude of worlds, constantly shifting....and
what is worse, it seems entirely undescriminating
in its choice of them. The cavern-city of the
minitaurs was the latest aquisition of the Pit's
shifting corridors, one whose inhabitants were
not interested in peacefully watching Torgal's
games.
One week and thirty dead men later, the
last of the violent creatures now lay at the
legionnaire's feet, ending the threat, for now.
Peering across the mighty maze-way leading up
to the ruins of the city proper, Alsimane snarls
as he notes it's walls continuing to shift and
slide away of their own volition. If he could
only know ahead of time which planes were in
conjunction with Westran's bloody Pit he'd have
some notion of who the next potential invaders
were. If he could just get them all in one place
at least that way he could plan... Looking once
more to the shifting walls before him, an idea
begins to form in the legionnaire's mind: One
which brings a lopsided smile of satisfaction
to his battered face.
Alsimane's week 12 fight will take place in the
maze-way of the minataurs. Contestants will be
deposited randomly into the pit without equipment
or spell components. These items will be scattered
throughout its shifting halls. The battle will
projected to the pit's audiance proper via mass-clairadience
provided by the mystical skills of the sinister
Ivan Zagad. Zagad will also take great pleasure
in forcing combattants to remain within the boundaries
set for the conflict, in his typical understated
way.
Further information on the spectacle will be
available only to those combatants competing
in the spectacle. All others will have to wait,
in anticipation.

CREATURE COMBAT - Ivan
Zagad |
COMBATANTS: Calathra
Tealeaf vs. Flegmar vs. Shanna Romm |
[EXCERPT FROM FIGHT
#45] Ivan Zagad grins "...I plan
to bring one of my petsss to the arena next
week."
The imp's eyes flash in alarm. "Not
the--"
Ivan Zagad laughs. "Oh, yes, Sithyigul,
one of the experiments. . . but do not worry,
it is a greatly weakened version. . . none of
those competing in the Pit have much strength
at all, so I had to tone it down, ssso to speak.
. ." He gestures to the opposite wall of
the arena. Nothing can be seen there, but one
of Torgal's apartments lies on the other side
of the wall. "Wessstran is allowing uss
to have a bit of fun with these next week's
fights. . . we can do whatever we wish with
them. . . so I shall pit three of the Pit's
competitorsss against each other and one of
my petsss; a sort of four-sided free-for-all.
. . the winner will be the lassst one standing.
I believe it will be quite interesssting. .
. and it will give me my first chance to test
the strength of the experiment. . ."
"Which remindss me that we have been
away from the tower too long. Follow, Sithyigul."
The dark mage's eyes flash crimson, and he steps
back from the edge of the balcony into the shadows.
Ivan Zagad's fight for week 12 will be as described
above: three gladiators fighting both each other
and one monster. The monster will be more powerful
than any of the combatants alone, so it is possible
that it will need to be weakened or even slain
before the combatants kill each other. Calathra
Tealeaf, Flegmar the Ravenous and Shanna Romm
will be the combatants in this battle, along
with their nameless, monstrous foe. Hints as
to the foe will be provided to the unfortunate
candidates.

ILL-PREPARED - Ultrann |
COMBATANTS: Crucibal
Atesh vs. Whisper |
Ultrann has decided to set up his Week 12 match
a little differently. First, magical preparation
before entering the arena is not possible, due
to a heavy anti-magic field. This means that no
spells can be cast prior to entering the Pit.
Second, you are offered one of two magical items
to wear in the Week 12 Pit fight: a pair of magic
gauntlets, or a magic ring. You do not know the
powers they contain. Choose one that you would
like. Third, your entry to the Pit will not be
via the conventional manner (i.e., through the
gates at opposite ends). As a whole, then, these
three things will require you to draft different
tactics compared to the tactics that you are used
to. |
PAIN GAME - Torgal |
COMBATANTS: Ackeron
vs. Craningar Rue vs. Crwag Raag vs. Rannos the
Fatherless |
Torgal glances at Melanos and then at Sharvista.
A sardonic smile crosses his face befores he
stands and addresses Sharvista. "I suspect
you would like to leave before I announce my
intentions for this upcoming finale?" Torgal
offers her an arm to help the demure lady to
her feet. A puzzled look crosses her face before
taking the Arena Master's arm.
"I'm sure I don't want to hear what
you have planned for these poor souls. So I
will leave and prepare the clinic for the victims
of your games." She smiles sadly at Torgal
before turning and leaving through the large
oak door.
"Melanos!" Torgal booms as he
turns to face his companion. "It's time
to put the fear of the Pit into these poor fools.
Its time to make some real cash..."
Torgal's week 12 match is going to seem straight
forward. It is a free for all. No teams, each
one fighting for their own life. There is however
a twist. Each round a random combatant will
be the recipient of a special blessing. They
can't be injured. And to add to this, anyone
who inflicts damage or a successful spell will
have that spell or damage inflicted on them
instead, and the two other combatants... well
they take half damage, although spells won't
have any effect on them. Now all this sounds
fun, but if the protected individual attempts
any healing, those hit points go to a random
competitor. To top the whole thing off, no one
knows who the protected individual is, not even
the individual. Hmmm... sounds fun.
