Fishing South West Scotland Page

The South West of Scotland has probably
some of the best shore and boat sea-angling to be found in Scotland.
Areas around Portpatrick,Port Logan,
Isle of whithorn,Mull of Galloway and Loch Ryan offer the shore angler many
good fishing marks. Some of these marks can be tricky to access,so take care when descending the rocks ,as they can be very slippy, especially when wet

Getting there is easy: just follow signs for Stranraer from Dumfries or Ayr.

My favourite fishing is for pollack off the deep water marks just north of Port Logan.
A long cast is not necessary ,as the pollock are very often just at your feet.
I use 15lb line with a 1oz weight and a trace of approx 3ft tipped off with a small thin strip of squid ( resembles a sandeel ).
The trick is to cast out and wind in slowly.(the 1oz weight reduces the possibility of snagging in the kelp)

My record pollack is 7.5 lbs taken from Port Logan.
26lb Tope I caught off Portpatrick in 1983
Average sized pollack taken from shore
at Port Logan
