James Eves started bottling soda in Belleville, Ontario (no real information available) and then moved to Kingston, Ontario in the summer of 1859. In 1862 he left Kingston and went to London, Ontario for a brief partnership with E.S. Bilton. In August of 1862 he moved to Toronto. Eves was one of the most prolific Canada West soda water bottlers, remaining in operation until 1869. The above bottle is one of Eves' first bottles from Kingston. It is easy to tell this because it is NOT embossed on the back with "THIS BOTTLE IS NEVER SOLD 1862". All of his bottles (when he moved to Toronto in 1862) were so embossed. This is a scarce bottle in a great colour, with only two being known!! |
