Geochelone denticulata- yellow footed tortoise Origin: South America
Some members of this species (Amazon River subspecies) can grow to be over 100 pounds. Most are around 12 inches in length and around 10-20 pounds. In general, this species is not as personable as the red footed tortoise (G. carbonaria) and is also more difficult to breed in captivity. Males can be differentiated from females by a notable plastral concavity as well as shorter tails.
