Indotestudo elongata- Elongated tortoise Origin: SE Asia
Differentiating I. elongata from I. forsteni
One of only three of the genus Indotestudo (I. forsteni and
I. travancorica being the other two). Found in India, Burma, Thailand,
Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, and North Vietnam. Most notable feature of this species is
that during the breeding season, the skin around the nares and eyes becomes pink in
coloration! Captive bred specimens can be found fairly easily and are relatively
hardy with appropriate care. In my experience, babies tend to grow at a very rapid
rate without the notable pyramiding typically found in other overfed newborn captive
hatchlings. Species is currently being consumed by the hundreds to thousands in the
food markets of China.
