It was fall. Fianola had waited so long for this. At least, it seemed as though she had waited long. It was only actually a few months.

Her sister, Nadra, was excited, too. She had her things packed for three weeks before the day they would arrive. She would come talk to Fianola every day, wondering about what being a page would be like.

So finally the day came, and the two girls waited outside for the horses. Fianola wrote in her journal:
Well, here I go. I'm off on my journey to knighthood. I wonder how the boys will react.

Fianola stood in her new room. It was quite large, but someone had ruined it. Paint had been splattered over everything. A pillow had been torn, feathers exploding over it, sticking to each surface.

She sat amidst it all, fighting slight tears. She had wanted this so badly, and the boys had ruined it already. Wait, she thought. Lady Keladry told me it may happen, so why am I acting as though someone ahd killed my best friend?

She stood up. Setting her bags on the floor outside her room, Fianola stepped into the room and began to clean it up. Knights must be disciplined, she thought. This is discipline, isn't it?
