Beginning pike fishing

making a wire trace

Cut a length of about 20 inches of wire.  Fold over one end so as to form a 2 inch overlap.  Push the fold through the eye of the hook and then over the trebles.  Pull tight to lock into place.

Now clip on a pair of forceps onto the short free end of wire.  Spin the forceps around the main trace wire so that a tight knot knot is formed. Snip off the tag end then thread another treble hook onto the wire.

The two treble hooks should be set about three-four inches apart. (depends on bait size).  Pass the wire under the treble then wrap it around the body of the hook four times.  Pass the wire back through the eye of the hook.  Pull tight.

Attach a swivel to the end of the wire.  The finished article should look as shown on the right.

Making the ledger rig

Thread the lead onto your main line followed by a rubber bead.  Tie the end of your main line to the swivel on the trace that you just made.  Bait up, and away you go! Click the next button if you want to find out how to attach your deadbait to the two treble hooks.
