Music plays.

Curtain rises.

Act Two, Scene Four. Night At the Barricade.

The curtain rises, and the Barricade set is turned so that we only see the deserted Tri-Leader side.  Ili is sitting on an extruding part near the bottom, head in her hands and looking really angry.  She sighs in irritation.

Ili: Stupid John.  Stupid La Resistance.  I saw the Tri-Leaders coming, darn it, me!  They'd all be in the Coal Mines now if it weren't for me!  Of course, I wouldn't, because I'd be smart enough to run away if the product hit the fan, but, you know...  I don't mean to whine, you know, it's just...

And now I've been kicked out again
No measly thanks, no shred of credit
And after I do all the work!
Explain it please, 'cause I don't get it.
Without me they'd be dead!
Because I've got a brain inside my head!

On my own
The only one who's thinking
All alone
I keep this ship from sinking
Without me, this fight would be a lost one
But John takes all the credit
And he shares his power with no one.

She hops down from the Barricade, and walks slowly up to the center stage as she sings.

Ili:

Jan Chovy,

That slut just makes me sick!
And Ian,
He only thinks with his- you know
Silent Jim,
Can think, but doesn't talk
Randall's just a sadist and John's head is like a rock.

She stops at the edge of the stage, fists clenched.

Ili:

And I know I'll never get what's mine!
That I'm stuck in this darned war with only fools.
And although I'm standing on the line
Still I say
There's a way for me

I'll get it! I'll make my own way someday!
And all these jerks, I'm gonna make them pay!
Without me, this world will fall to nothing!
I'm filled with such potential that this world has never known!

She starts to turn back now, towards the Barricade, but not turning her back on the audience.

Ili:

I'll rule it
I'll rule it
I'll rule it
But only
On my own.

She sighs again, and then climbs up the Barricade.  As she does, it begins to turn again, and stops so that the stage is divided into two again.  We see that the La Resistancers are sitting around, not looking all that festive anymore.  Ian and Jan are sort of cuddling against the Barricade, while Silent Jim sits nearby, looking at the floor.  Cole is sitting dispiritedly on the table that the Trix Rabbit died on, and Randall paces around irritably.  Dark Shadow is leaning against the Barricade, towards the back  of the stage, in the shadows.  Even Katherine, still taped to her chair, looks forlorn.  John is off by himself, on the far side of the stage, at the edge, over the orchestra pit.  He is staring out, behind the audience.

In the meantime, the other side of the stage is dark, but close inspection will reveal the Tri-Leaders getting set up.

Ili climbs down and looks around.

Ili: Party over?

Ian: Yeah... it's just, you know...

Jan: Seeing the Trix Rabbit die and all- really puts a damper on this whole thing.  I mean, like Randall said- who's going to be next?

Cole: I've always said that it's a great thing to be a martyr for any cause against the Tri-Leaders, but... it's...  I don't want to die here.  If I'm going to die anywhere, I want it to be lugging coal, and then be buried among it.  I want to go home.

Randall: This is bull.  This is the biggest load of bull I've ever seen, you know?!  Oreos aren't supposed to kill people, damn it!

Ili: Yeah, well, if you get hit in the wrong place...

Randall: This was supposed to be easy!  We were supposed to just walk all over them!  We're supposed to be in control!

Ili: What's wrong with Lordy?

Jan:  Guess he's feeling the mortality blues too.

Cole: I want to go home...

Ili: Don't we all.

She sits down on a piece of Barricade.

Ili: Don't we all...

The lights come on over at the Tri-Leader side of the stage.  The Tri-Leaders and Junior Tri-Leaders are back, but sitting around, also looking glum.

Roses: Ten clones frozen today, along with Vic and Al Broker.  And, well...

Roseidous: Sally.

Roses: Yeah.

Ann: When did this all become so complicated?  I mean, shouldn't he have collapsed the Barricade by himself by now?

Roses: John's got a lot more going on that we give him credit for, I guess.  Didn't think one of those things would be the capability of winning...

Holli: It isn't supposed to be this way.

Tails: This should have been fast and short and, well, not depressing.  What happens if we lose, Roses?  What happens if he freezes all of us?

Roses: Not something I want to think about. But we can't give up and run away. We'll try again in the morning.

Tyrael: I want to go home.

Holli: Don't we all.

Music begins to play, and Ian raises a glass of (non Tri-Leader) milk.

Ian:
Drink with me
To days gone by
Sing with me
The songs we knew.

Ili:
Here's to lofty schemes
That went to our heads

Jan:
Here's to lofty dreams
That warmed us in bed

La Resistancers:
Here's to them
And here's to you.

John (off by himself):
Drink with me
To days gone by
Can it be your fear to die?
Will the world remember you when you fall?
Could it be your death means nothing at all?
Is your life just one more lie?

Tyrael and Roseidous: Drink with me

Holli and Tails: Drink with me

Tyrael and Roseidous: To days

Holli and Tails: To days

Tyrael and Roseidous: Gone by

Holli and Tails: Gone by

Tyrael and Roseidous: To the life

Holli and Tails: To the life

Tyrael and Roseidous: That used

Holli and Tails: That used

Tyrael and Roseidous: To be

Holli and Tails: To be

Roses and Ann: Let the great Tri-Leaders never say die!

All Tri-Leaders: Let the Tri-Leaders' memory always be prized!

Tri-Leaders: Here's to you

Junior Tri-Leaders: Here's to you

Tri-Leaders: And here's

Junior Tri-Leaders: And here's

Tri-Leaders: To me

Junior Tri-Leaders: To me

Roseidous:
Do I care if I should die
Now that she's been popped?
Life without Sally means nothing at all!
Would you weep, Sally, should Roseidous fall?
Will you weep Sally
For me?

After the music has faded out, John walks over to the others.

John: Well then.  Big day tomorrow, everyone- eminent victory and all that... um, so I guess we should get some sleep.

No one responds.  Finally, Ian stands up and heads offstage (stage right).  John pats his back as he goes, Jan and Silent Jim follow him, and then Ili, who gives John a look- half contempt, half pity.  Randall follows them, as do the other La Resistancers, and the lackeys.  Cole hops off the table, and looks up at John.

Cole: I want to go home.

He walks offstage, leaving John by himself.  He opens his mouth, then closes it, sighs, and exits stage right.  It is then that Dark Shadow detaches himself from the shadows, looks around, and then exits stage right, with a little bounce in his step.

On the other side of the Barricade, Roses stands up.

Roses: Well, tomorrow's another big day.  Let's try to get some sleep at least.

Holli: Do we really have to go to sleep now?

Roses: Well, no, I guess not...

Holli: Because, you know, I wouldn't mind a few more hours of nostalgia...

Ann: Fine with me.

Tails: Me too.

Tyrael: Why not?

They all look at Roseidous.  He sighs and stands up.

Roseidous: I think I'm going to try to get some sleep.

He exits stage left, and the others sit in uneasy silence for a moment, and then exit as the stage lights fade off.  In the darkness, the Barricade turns, again, so that once it becomes visible again, only the La Resistance side is showing.  A single spotlight comes on, and we see Goober, dusting the table.  He coughs, dusts for a second, and then drops the brush and sighs.  He looks up at the spotlight.

Goober:
God on high
Hear my prayer
In my need
You have always been there.
He is young
He's insane
Screw him up
Make him lose

Screw him up!
Screw him up!
Screw him up!

The rest are not exactly clean
But they deserve the chance to be redeemed
Or else they'll die, one by one!
Slaughtered all-'cause of John!
And so I pray
That they live on!

Power now
He shan't enjoy!
He is young
He is only a boy!
You can take
You can give
Screw up John
But let them live

If I die
Let me die!
I've had my share
Screw him up!
Screw him up!
Screw him up!

He looks down, then back up again.  Finally, he picks up his brush, and exits stage right.  The spotlight fades out.

Curtain drops.
