Original Soap Box Racer Car
Knott's Berry Farm Buena Park, CA
(read this while the pictures are loading)
Remember the fun . . . the ride begins, you try to rock your car forward to get the edge on your opponent. You reach the lift in hopes you are ahead. Then coast quickly through the sharp turns, jumps and dips of Stray Cat Alley. And finally speeding through the last long turn the winner is decided.
The Soap Box Racers was one of the key signature rides of Knott's Berry Farm. There is nothing left of the the ride today except for their cars. Just sitting in it brings back memories of sliding off the seats after each quick turn.
After the ride closed down these cars were kept in storage by Knott's then about a year later I was able to acquire one.
These seats are all in surprisingly great condition and still very comfy. I have taken the liberty of Armor-All-ing the seats to keep them from fading. The interior is as clean as it can be. You can see from the interior photos that the paint is chipping showing the fiberglass. Like all rider cars, this one comes with the usual ride wear and tear (chips, scratches, fading & denting) graffiti etching. There is rusting in the pie tins located on the front and back of the car. Everything on the are is original. I have not repainted or touched up anything. Out of all the cars sold this one was one of few that were in overall great condition.
Now these cars are quite large and heavy. They're roughly 9 feet long and 2 1/2 feet wide and 4 feet tall at the backrest. The body is fiberglass with soft plastic padded seats, backrests, arm bumpers and leg bumpers.
Now it's time to check it out!
