Quatre Raberba Winner, of Arabian descent, is the only son of L4 colony's wealthy and powerful Winner family, and as such he is the heir to the immense Winner estate. Quatre seems to wear this title with a charming sense of noblesse oblige, and is polite to all he meets, even those he is about to kill in battle. (He always gives them a chance to surrender first - then apologizes for having to kill them if they don't.) Above all, Quatre is anxious to please and to see the other pilots safe and harmonious (hard to do with Heero and Duo or Wu Fei around!) To this end he is the soul of hospitality, attempting always to take care of whatever pilot he happens to be with by using his family's immense fortune and holdings.
Although he is the same age (15) as the other pilots in the series, Quatre carries an air of child-like innocence about him that the others don't possess. This appearance is enhanced by his shorter stature and higher voice, and his genuine angst at the misfortune of his friends or family. To me, Quatre is the most normal of the gundam pilots, possibly due to his intact family structure. In addition to his sisters (all 29 of them) and his father, Quatre is accompanied to Earth by a group of ethnic fighters, called Manganacs, who seem to hold him in almost god-like esteem.
The pilot of Gundam Sandrock (04) is not without his own past and present scars. In joining the other pilots in the colonies' fight, Quatre infuriates his father, a man that he wants more than anyone else to please. The break is a hard one for Quatre, and the death of his father before the relationship can be healed leads to a harrowing experience for the blonde-haired, blue-eyed pilot. But Quatre is not the little boy he appears to be and he draws on great reserves of strength to fight his way back to a meaningful life in the cause of the colonies. In fact, by the end of the series, I believe Quatre is the strongest pilot of the five. He is the one who is able to unite the pilots to fight against White Fang and he is really the only one to get true control over the Zero System. So the boy who looks (and sometimes acts) so young and innocent is actually a serious fighter, who has genuine leadership qualities that all of them need by the end of the Eve Wars.
