Treize Khushrenada is the most complex of all the characters in Gundam Wing. Although some fans may see him as an evil megalomaniac, he is primarily good at heart but willing to use unethical means to achieve what he truly believes will be a beneficial power structure for the Earth (And, of course, he has no monopoly on unethical means - the g-boys are all terrorists! Besides, Treize is kind and gentle compared to his aide, the formidable Lady Une.
Like his longtime friend, Milliard Peacecraft, Trieze is a member of the European nobility, being born to aristocratic parents and raised in that priveleged environment. He is the nephew of Duke Dermail, who is the head of the Romefeller Foundation and a cousin to Dorothy Catalonia, Dermail's granddaughter.
Although Treize shares his uncle's view that the Federation/Alliance is too weak to govern effectively, unlike Dermail Treize has a deeply engrained sense of honor and a love of the noble, which he sees as a part of warfare itself. In Treize's view, battles are fought between humans striving to better themselves and, in the very act of fighting bravely, they glorify themselves and the human race.
Treize believes also that those people who are truly noble at heart are the ones who should be leaders, for only the noble members of society are strong enough to make the people feel safety in being governed. When people feel the safety that strong leadership brings, they have no more need to fight among themselves and peace is a true possibility.
Like his friend and companion, Zechs, this complex view of the world allows Treize to see the gundam pilots as something more than dangerous terrorists. He becomes especially fascinated with Wu Fei because he understands the Chinese boy's strong
sense of justice and sees the moral outrage that Wu Fei so often feels as the mark of brave and noble heart. Treize feels that his views on things, however, are not widely comprehended, claiming, by the end of the series, that there are only three "souls" who have ever understood him: Zechs, of course, the obsessively loyal Une, and Wu Fei.
