Gundam Wing Episode 09

Zechs and Noin discuss OZ's objectives. Even though it began as an organization for mediating disputes between nations, the Alliance became a oppressive military power in its own right. Zechs believes that OZ is trying to give the nations of Earth a second chance, to correct the mistake they made in forming the now-oppressive Alliance. A carrier plane arrives, with Zechs very loyal subordinate, Otto, and the newly finished mobile suit, the Tallgeese. Otto has tested Tallgeese and been severely injured because of its phenomenal speed and crushing g-forces. Zechs decides to test Tallgeese out by making a raid on the Alliance base in his homeland, the Sank Kingdom. Noin and the Aries fleet back him up, but the base is defended by scores of beam cannons and they have to retreat. While fighting, Zechs is continually questioning himself as to why he is being so "timid" in his fighting. Back at the OZ camp, he lies in a field hospital, his heart and circulatory system damaged by Tallgeese. He tells Noin that he's discovered Tallgeese is a suit for dueling, not for combat, and that its best performance can only be brought out by a pilot who is willing to risk everything for the chance of winning. He compares this to the gundams, and the way their pilots fight, then says that he's an inferior pilot because he wasn't willing to die during the last battle.

Otto overhears this and takes off in the Tallgeese to attack the Alliance base in Sank and reclaim the country for Zechs. When Zechs hears of this he tries to talk Otto out of doing it, but Otto counters by saying he wants to give his life, not for OZ, but for Zechs. Otto plows through the troops and crashes Tallgeese into the base headquarters, destroying them and killing himself. His last words are, "Zechs!! BONZAI!!!"

Quatre gets ranted at by Manguanacs for trying to fight without them. He tells Rashid that he's met all the pilots and they seem like good people. When Rashid asks him how he knows this, Quatre tells him that his Spaceheart knows it.

Zechs then goes to the ruined palace of Sank where he addresses his father's portrait, taking off his mask for the first time in the series. He says that he has failed his father and his father's ideals. He feels too bloodstained to be fit for the throne of Sank, but picks up a photo of Relena as a toddler and says that she will be able to rule.
