Convert for sharia trial
March 22, 2006
KABUL: An Afghan man could be sentenced to death after being charged with converting from Islam to Christianity, a crime under Afghanistan's sharia law.
The trial is believed to be the first of its kind in Afghanistan and highlights the struggle between religious conservatives and reformists over what shape Islam will take, four years after the Islamic fundamentalist Taliban regime was overthrown.
The defendant, Abdul Rahman, 41, was arrested last month after his family accused him of becoming a Christian, judge Ansarullah Mawlavezada said. Mr Rahman was charged with rejecting Islam. His trial started last Thursday.
During the one-day hearing, the defendant allegedly confessed he converted from Islam to Christianity 16 years ago while working as a medical aid worker for an international Christian group helping Afghan refugees.

Letters From War
She walked to the mailbox
On that bright summers day
Found a letter from her son
In a war far away
He spoke of the weather
And good friends that he'd made
Said I'd been thinking 'bout dad
And the life that he had
Thats why I'm here today
And that the end he said
You are what I'm fighting for
It was the first of the letters from war
She started writing
You're good and you're brave
What a father that you'll be someday
make it home
make it safe
She wrote every night as she prayed
Late in December
A day she'll not forget
Oh her tears stained the paper
With every word that she read
It said "I was up on a hill
I was out there alone
When the shots all rang out
And bombs were exploding
And thats when I saw him
He came back for me
And though he was captured
A man set me free
And that man was your son
He asked me to write to you
I told him i would, oh I swore"
It was the last of the letters from war
And she prayed he was living
Kept on believing
And wrote every night just to say
You are good
And you're brave
what a father that you'll be someday
Make it home
Make it safe
Still she kept writing each day
Then two years later
Autumn leaves all around
A car pulled in the driveway
And she fell to the ground
And out stepped a captain
Where her boy used to stand
He said "mom I'm following orders
From all of your letters
And I've come home again",
He ran into hold her
And dropped all his bags on the floor
Holding all of her letters from war
Bring him home
Bring him home
Bring him home

This is for you Sandy, my dear girl.
Thank you for your kind encouragement when I was in need for them.
Thank you for your generosity and helpfulness
Thank you for your blessed smile that brightens my day
Thank you for the unexpected moments where you lift me up and make me feel special
Thank you for being just there as a friend to roam around with
Thank you for your justice
Thank you for sharing your life with me for the past 10-11 years
Overall I thank you for your love and that God has placed you in my life.
You suddenly tell me that you remembered the song I wrote to you pleasantly surprised me. It was the first song I have ever written and it touched me to hear you say that you remembered. I got the lyrics from a poem my dad gave to me, and I tweaked the words a little at the chorus stanza. Put a melody in while fiddling around with the organ. Poem's by Helen Steiner Rice.
I'm glad that you kept the letters I wrote to you and all, and I do actually keep the letters you wrote to me. LOL...even though some of it were just plain stupid with the teasing "...loves..." going on, it was funny and it never fails to make me smile.
So here's a dedication of this wee lil' song to you Sandy, and to the rest of you guys out there as well.
To remember that God is there for you, no matter how tired, lonely, angry or depressed you are.
Let Go and Let God
When you're troubled and worried
and sick at heart
When your plans are upset
and your world falls apart
Remember God's ready
and waiting to share
the burden you find hard to heavy to bear
[Chorus:]
So with faith
Let Go
So with faith
Let God lead the way
Remember
God's there
to lead you into a brighter and less troubled day
For God has a plan
for everyone
If we learn to pray
They will be done
For nothing in life
Is without God's design
For each life is fashioned
By the Hand that's Divine.
[Chorus]

Sometimes I feel like things will be alright
Sometimes I feel that situations are tight
Sometimes I feel like understanding and reason is vacant in this world
Yet I still believe that there is something that can redeem all
Sometimes this place seems so cold
Sometimes everything just tears apart
Sometimes trying is just so hard to do
But in the end, maybe it's just the question of faith
So here I am
standing before you
proclaiming that you are my God
That I know you will be with me through all life
I'm going to believe
And I will trust fully in your grace
For I know you love me
And I want to fall in love with you
Forever

Life is getting busier each and every day. Lots of piled up work and all. I sure hope life in JC for Shaun and Jeremy is good, LOL. I think the two of you would be seeing each other during the dragonboat races. One from NYJC and the other, ACJC. I wonder who would win?
Anyway I'm missing both you guys badly!!! Wanna see you when I go back for the holidays...
Things are getting easier to adapt around KL. Although transportation is still one big problem, combined with the fluctuating weather and all, not sure whether walking for hours outside in the undetermined climate is good or not. Just fell ill and having recovered, I don't wish to fall sick again. Real terrible feeling, having to sniffle your nose throughout silent classes and you can't sleep, because if you do, the mucus flows out of your nose and it looks darn horrible.
I really really really want to watch NASCAR 3D! But I know this week I cannot do so. So sad right? Oh well, all I pray is that the iMAX theatre doesn't close the show by next week.
How's life at home, sister? When are you changing to your new job? If you haven't, how's the 'holidays' for you now? LOL...
Anyway, going to say something that I thought was kind of coincidental. Was in cell today, worshipping, and I was praying. Then suddenly I saw 3 apples. A huge red apple in between two small ones. Then arrows starting shooting, and the small one stood firm. The huge one fell once the arrow made contact with its skin. The other small one also stood firm. Then another set of arrows came, this time hitting on the horizontal side of the two small apples. Carving out a cross. I wonder what it means...
Although I haven't exactly got the meaning yet, going to pray about it, something happened a few seconds after. A verse popped into my head, from Joshua Chapter 1. "Be strong and courageous"
That was the verse Wincci gave to me when she was about to leave COGS I think? YOu know the time when she tore out pages from the bible to give to us as a present of some sort? She gave to me Joshua 1:6-9.
So anyway, that verse was in my mind and then Qi Wen just started speaking forth. And suddenly he said about those particular verses. Being strong and courageous. I was so surprised that I started grinning like a fool, my hand was covering my mouth as I was about to chuckle.
Coincidence or what? All I believe is that we worship the same God, the Almighty Creator.

"Like A Child"
by Jars of Clay
Dear God, surround me as I speak,
the bridges that I walk across are weak
Frustrations fill the void that I can't solely bear
Dear God, don't let me fall apart,
you've held me close to you
I have turned away and searched for answers I can't understand
[Chorus:]
They say that I can move the mountains
And send them falling to the sea
They say that I can walk on water
If I would follow and believe
with faith like a child
Sometimes, when I feel miles away
and my eyes can't see your face
I wonder if I've grown to lose the recklessness
I walked in light of you
"I've got joy like a fountain!"
"Be kind one to others"
"In Jesus Christ Your son"
They say that love can heal the broken
They say that hope can make you see
They say that faith can find a Savior
If you would follow and believe
with faith like a child
