Valentine’s Day
I don’t think I can stand another Valentine’s Day alone—
Well, not really alone, (my friends and I exchange valentines)
But alone where it counts—
With my claddagh ring still upside down on my finger,
Like it’s always been,
And me pretending to be sick of the commercialism
When everyone knows I’m first to jump at any excuse to spend money
And my favorite color’s pink.
I don’t want to have to dig out my "Love Sucks" shirt,
The one I made last February when I couldn’t make it to Hot Topic
And my mom wouldn’t let me buy a shirt like that anyway,
And have to re-sew the "s" of "sucks" that’s coming off
For another day of making a half-humorous half-bitter statement.
I can barely even sew.
I really don’t think I can stand another Valentine’s Day,
Not really alone,
But alone where it counts.
