Post Course Reflection:

Before taking this class I didn’t consider myself a very strong or creative writer. As the class comes to an end however, I feel like I have been introduced to a whole new world of writing. I have learned to write all kinds of different types of essays, how to pick creative attention grabbing topics, and how to write in a more effective manner. I think I have gotten out of this class all that I was expecting to and more. I originally signed up for expository to improve and expand my writing skills, and I think I have achieved that.

My favorite part of this course was probably the argument essay. I liked this part of the course because we got to fishbowl. I liked fishbowling because I think that it gave the class a chance to share all of our points of views on all sorts of topics. I think that this course gave all of us a chance to share all of our opinions and discuss a variety of topics and ideas.

However with the good parts of the course, comes the bad aspects. There was nothing that I necessarily considered “bad”, but there were parts that I enjoyed less then others. I didn’t like reviewing for the regents, but I am aware that it was fully necessary in order to prepare for the regents, it just was less enjoyable then the rest of the class. I also didn’t really enjoy any of the homework or writing any of the essays, but you’ll never be able to improve myself as a writer without practice, and I would never have been able to experience the different types of writing if I hadn’t tried to write my own personal works.

My advice to anyone considering this class is to only take it if you are willing to try new things, and take on a pretty heavy work load responsibly, because this is not a BS class. I’d recommend this class to anyone who is good at writing creatively.
